Experience: BS Mechanical Engineer maybe a Chem E with 5-15 years of experience. Would ideally like someone from the Chemical Process Industry but relatively open as long as they have the utilities experience. They specifically need experience with Waste water and Boilers. Additional desired skills would be maintenance experience, PSM, DCS and any Six Sigma or lean manufacturing experience. They would like someone regionally from the area or has ties to the Peoria, IL area.

Duties: This person will work in this 90 person Chemical Plant and will handle the Utilities for the plant including but not limited to the Boiler House, Coal and Gas fired Boilers, Waste Water Treatment Plant, and Compressors. Will do some capital project work, maintenance and Safety Compliance.

The Utilities & Facilities Specialist supports Plant utilities and facility operations as required for Plant production.

Under the direction of the Maintenance & Utilities Manager the Utilities & Facilities Specialist leads activities related to providing the Plant with process steam, compressed air, demineralized water, nitrogen, waste water treatment, and other utilities and oversees activities in the Boiler House and the related utilities systems on a daily basis.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Includes the following and other duties that may be assigned:

  • Ensures that activities in the Utilities area and Plant facilities are performed in a safe and environmentally sound manner and in accordance with best practices and Plant or Corporate policies.
  • Serves as Line Engineer for the Utilities and Facilities departments with daily review of operations, data collection and analysis, and follow-up as required.
  • Optimizes cost and reliability decisions as required to ensure minimal interruptions to basic utilities and facility operations while continually lowering delivered cost.
  • Utilizes several computer software programs to gather and present data in support of responsibilities, including the Bailey DCS distributive control system and the computerized maintenance management system.
  • Coordinates equipment and contractor resources as required to support activities in the Boiler House and common facilities plant-wide. Provides scheduling and oversight for contractors performing work and services as required.
  • Coordinates maintenance activities and ensures that equipment is prepared for repairs as scheduled, including proper shutdown and safety isolation. Analyzes and proposes solutions regarding equipment reliability and contractor performance.
  • In conjunction with Utilities operators, performs system or process troubleshooting and makes recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Monitors and communicates any equipment performance and operating issues as required to minimize process and/or Boiler House upsets.
  • Participates as a key member on the coal fired boiler annual shutdown planning and execution team.
  • Provides recommendations or presentations to Plant, Corporate, vendors, and contractors, as required.
  • Ensures the integration and management of changes into procedures and daily practices.
  • Ensures compliance with PSM/MOC systems as they apply.

Marginal Job Functions:

  • Provides troubleshooting of process operations in cooperation with other process line engineers. Occasionally provides backup to the Operations Supervisors. Occasionally provides backup to Process Engineers.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • B.S. Degree in engineering required or extensive experience in a continuously operating chemical operation, preferably in the operation of Utilities systems.
  • Familiarity with steam systems, compressor systems, coal-fired and gas-fired equipment, demineralized water, cooling water, nitrogen, and wastewater treatment systems required.
  • Knowledge of electrical/instrument/DCS is helpful.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
  • Ability to prepare reports and business correspondence and effectively present information

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Strong troubleshooting ability under multiple constraints is often required.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to work and manage operations in a fast pace, changing environment.
  • Ability to effectively lead and motivate subordinate personnel within a team environment.
  • Ability to utilize various computer word processing and spreadsheet software applications.
  • Ability to use various office machines such as computer and keyboard, phone, fax, photo copier, etc.
  • Strong communication skills.

  • Self-motivator.

Certificates/Licenses/Registrations

  • Certification in direct fired boiler system fundamentals is a benefit.
