Physical Design Engineer

IBM Z Hardware Development is seeking an experienced physical design engineer for development of our next-generation Z processor. You will be working as part of a global chip design team to design and build one of the highest-performance processors in the world on cutting-edge technology nodes.

• Partner with the broader design team to drive the physical design of a complex, high-frequency processor chip including RTL synthesis, placement and routing, power performance area (PPA) optimization, design rule checking (DRC), and timing closure.
• Provide physical design feedback to logic owners and other stakeholders to ensure the design is on the best path to closure and delivery to manufacturing
• Apply your experience to mentor junior engineers, improve physical design methodology, and increase the overall efficiency of your team

• Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science and 4 years of experience in a hardware physical design role, or Masters Degree and 3 years of experience.
• Demonstrated experience in scripting and methodology flows.
• Experience in physical design closure.
• Demonstrated communication skills in a global team environment..

• Experience with EDA tools from Cadence, Synopsys, etc. Experience with IBM EDA tools is an added benefit
• Experience with scripting languages used in hardware design like Tcl, Python, SKILL, etc
• Experience in custom layout
• Exposure to integration methods and requirements
• Exposure to static timing analysis and noise analysis
