Job Description:

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Leads a team of mechanical design and stress engineers to develop models, drawings, and required substantiation documentation in support of the development of aerospace products and programs on transport category aircraft.
  • Helps define work packages and assigns, monitors, and controls said packages with assigned team.
  • Participate in one or more Integrated Program Teams (IPTs) to design, substantiate, and implement design solutions and improvements throughout the entire program development lifecycle.
  • Participates in the change management process with Project Engineering and Program Management.
  • Supports milestone meeting content development and presentation.
  • Supports the development of standards for design and substantiation data development, including drawings, substantiation analyses, test plans and reports, etc., in accordance with aerospace engineering industry standards and ensure adherence to such standards across all products and programs.
  • Contributes significantly to the development of product data management and product lifecycle management tools and procedures.
  • May travel to customers or installation locations for aircraft surveys or to troubleshoot installation issues and communicate solutions back to team in office for incorporation into type design.
  • Participates in the bid and proposal process for internal or external Requests For Quotation (RFQs).
  • Lead trade studies for product improvements to reduce cost, lead time, installation complexity, etc.
  • Support Material Review Board (MRB) process.
  • Mentors and fosters growth of assigned direct reports.
  • Frequent travel may be required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Engineering or related field from an accredited college or university and 10+ years of Aerospace Engineering experience or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Transport category aircraft airframe, system, and interior design practices experience required.
  • Experience with STC development required; PMA and OPP preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Leadership, critical thinking, business acumen, innovation, collaboration, written and verbal communication, presentation, analytical thinking, customer focus, attention to detail.
  • Creative problem solver, able to coach others to solve problems independently and in group settings.
  • Advanced skills in 3D modeling and drafting with a preference for SolidWorks.
  • Experience with FEMAP/NASTRAN highly desired.
  • Advanced understanding of aerospace design standards (e.g., ASME Y14.5, ASME Y14.34 standards)
  • Adapts well to changing priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Work experience in a research and development environment.
  • Strong understanding of FAA certification processes including STC, PMA, and OPP.
  • Prior experience in establishing engineering technical and business processes in an aerospace environment.
  • Sound judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office software, Teams, etc.
  • Must be able to learn company systems
  • Some travel may be required
  • Hours may vary due to organizational need

Physical Requirements:

  • Normal amount of sitting, there may be some walking, bending, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, squatting and crawling associated with on-site inspections
  • On an occasional basis, may be required to lift and carry up to 25 pounds
  • Some work may be performed in industrial settings
