Our people division is growing, and we are looking for a Superintendent, Project Services to join our team. The successful candidate will play a critical leadership role in the successful planning and execution of capital mining projects by providing expertise in cost estimating, scheduling, forecasting, progress reporting, document control, safety oversight, contractor management, and construction support. This position collaborates with project managers and superintendents to ensure effective and predictable delivery of large-scale capital projects across greenfield and brownfield mining operations while maintaining alignment with industry best practices and company standards. This role also ensures project performance is effectively measured, controlled, and reported in alignment with company standards and objectives. The ideal candidate will be a proactive, detail-oriented professional with extensive experience in capital project environments and a strong understanding of project controls processes and tools.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop accurate and defensible capital cost estimates for large greenfield and brownfield mining infrastructure projects including process plant expansions, tailings storage facilities, material handling systems, and other fixed plant assets
  • Support development and management of project budgets aligned with capital allocation processes
  • Work collaboratively with the finance team to manage a capital project register and ensure complete and accurate estimates and forecasts for all planned capital expenditure
  • Track monthly capital spend variances vs plan and prepare monthly report to summarize forecasting accuracy, explanations for significant variances, forecasting adjustments, and performance against the annual budget
  • Develop and manage detailed project schedules for mining projects, including critical path analysis and resource loading, and summarize key dates, milestones, and resources at both the project and portfolio level
  • Track physical field progress, update work progress schedules, and provide accurate completion forecasts
  • Work with construction, engineering, and procurement teams to ensure timely milestone achievement
  • Prepare detailed progress reports, including earned value analysis, productivity metrics, and variance explanation vs baseline plan
  • Support internal project progress reporting to senior and executive leadership
  • Ensure cost and schedule trends are identified and communicated, work collaboratively with project managers to manage change and identify corrective actions
  • Oversee document control systems to ensure compliance with company standards
  • Maintain auditable records for key project documents and decisions, including budget approvals, design packages, permits, contract awards, risk assessments, change management, and record of construction
  • Ensure project activities adhere to all safety requirements per mining regulations and company standards
  • Develop and implement strategies to control risk and hazards in the workplace; review and assist with risk assessment development and work planning
  • Collaborate with project and site stakeholders to facilitate field inspections and hazard assessments
  • Developing annual safety strategies and setting monthly focus aligned to needs; facilitate monthly team safety meetings to review safety performance and share learnings from recent near misses and incidents
  • Participate in contractor prequalification, selection, and performance evaluations
  • Support construction contract development to recommend measurable performance tracking metrics
  • Supervise construction execution and assist contractors in safe work plan development
  • Manage contractor interfaces; ensure scope, schedule, and cost alignment throughout construction phases
  • Ensure compliance with company contractor management standard
  • Supervise, mentor and train subordinate project support team, define clear objectives and expectations of direct reports, evaluate performance, provide verbal and written feedback on career growth, and encourage innovative thinking and process improvement
  • Assist in developing comprehensive project plans by outlining scope, timeline, resource, and budget requirements; work collaboratively with project managers and operating groups to validate & refine plans
  • Complete post-investment project reviews and apply learnings to future capital plans
  • Ensure all project control procedures are fully implemented and compliant with company standards, and oversee project support standardization across all projects
  • Maintain interface with project management software and all supporting business systems
  • Advise on application of effective project planning & control techniques aligned to industry best practice
  • Contribute to risk management assessments and critical mitigation strategy development
  • Assist preparation of capital allocation requests including all required supporting documentation
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field required
  • Ten (10) or more years of project planning, project controls, or project management experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge in cost estimating, scheduling, progress tracking, reporting, document control, earned value management, or other related project execution concepts preferred
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including communicating technical details to all levels of the organization required
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders required
  • Ability to work collaboratively with project execution teams and lead through influence required
  • Effective time management, leadership, organizational, and decision-making concepts required
  • Knowledge of general mining operations and practices preferred
  • Understanding of financial modeling and impact of projects on overall business preferred
  • Knowledge of accounting practices and capital allocation processes preferred
  • Knowledge of contract and contractor management practices preferred
  • Practical application of MS Office products including Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint preferred
  • Familiarity with project estimating and project scheduling software preferred
