Colorado Mesa University (CMU) is seeking a full-time painter into a dynamic university environment where they are an essential ingredient to our operations. The purpose of this work unit is to operate and maintain the structural, mechanical and electrical systems of the facilities, to provide an environment that is conducive to the educational process. This structural trades position is looking for someone to work in the maintenance and alteration of structures, fixtures and other building equipment. The work involves a variety of tasks in the maintenance and upkeep of the equipment and systems associated with buildings. Work includes building, installing, repairing, renovating, demolishing, maintaining, finishing, and painting structures, structural parts, furnishings, locks, and associated building equipment. It includes determining what needs to be done, determining the steps for completing assignments, estimating time and material requirements, and using a variety of hand and power tools. Some positions may require licensure or certification.
OVERVIEW AND ROLE SCOPE OF TEAM AND/OR TASKS
The role aims to enlist a proficient Journeyman Level Painter responsible for painting and conducting repairs on current campus buildings, fixtures, and structures. Additionally, it involves renovating existing facilities to adapt to changing needs and modernization. Duty Statements encompass a range of responsibilities, including but not limited to:
Surface Conditioning (50% of Job):
Prepares surfaces to be painted by using scrapers, sandpaper or sanding machines, dusting, sizing, putty, caulking. Tapes & textures drywall and hangs various types of drywalls and matches existing textures, match paints, stains, mix lacquers and enamels for both repairs and remodels.
Application (35% of Job):
Apply paint and other finishes to surfaces with brush, rollers, or spray equipment. Lift/carry 5-gallon buckets of paint, Remove all types of graffiti without damage to the substrate or the environment. Lay drop cloths. Cleans, maintains brushes and other painting equipment.
Data Entry (5% of Job):
Keeps inventory of paints, records of purchases, maintain and submit timely OneCard and SchoolDude records.
Supervises (5% of Job):
Instruct, lead and supervise less-skilled persons.
Other duties as assigned (5% of Job):
Includes but not limited to working with other trades, in carpentry. grounds snow removal, and Special event setup.

- Determines equipment replacement versus repair based on life cycle and uses.
Complexity examples could include:
- The door to an office scratched and need protected from the environment with paint.
- An apartment unit has a water leaking from its bathroom ceiling causing drywall damage that needs repaired and painted.
- Exterior surfaces have been vandalized with graffiti which needs to be removed.
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE FOR RIGHT FIT
Experience Only:
Four (4) years of relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position.

Experience and Experience:
- A combination of related education, formalized apprenticeship program, and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to four (4) year
Conditions of Employment:

- Possession and maintenance of valid Colorado driver's license (Position requires ability to drive motorized vehicle and/or golf cart to job sites on main and auxiliary campuses)
