Job Summary
The 2nd Shift Electrician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting electrical equipment and instrumentation at Morton Salt facilities. The role includes interpreting technical diagrams, setting up and repairing PLC-controlled systems, motor control circuits, and other electrical equipment. The Electrician ensures adherence to safety standards while supporting plant operations, minimizing production disruptions, and participating in reliability improvements. The position involves routine maintenance tasks and urgent repairs, requiring flexibility to work outside regular business hours.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Install, inspect, and troubleshoot instruments and electrical equipment per NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, ISA, and Company Standards.
- Maintain and troubleshoot field instrumentation devices for process equipment.
- Interpret and use electrical and process control documentation, including Electrical One-line diagrams, Elementary diagrams, wiring schematics, control schematics, P&IDs, Cause and Effect diagrams, Instrument Loop diagrams, and Interconnect diagrams.
- Set up, troubleshoot, and repair equipment issues, including electrical/electronic controls, PLC-controlled systems using ladder logic, robotic systems, industrial servo controls, and AC/DC motors.
- Follow safety procedures when working on AC distribution systems.
- Troubleshoot and repair motor control circuits and equipment.
- Support Plant Operations to minimize production impacts and enhance reliability.
- Install and maintain wiring, control, and lighting systems, including components such as transformers and circuit breakers.
- Bend and install electrical conduit, pull wire and cable, and terminate power, control, and instrumentation wire and cable.
- Perform routine jobs such as greasing, oiling, cleaning, and inspecting equipment, buildings, and attachments with minimal supervision.
- Participate in reliability improvements at the facility by identifying potential problems and suggesting corrections.
- Be available for call-in during plant operations for emergency repairs.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Trade School or Community College degree in industrial maintenance or equivalent experience.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, such as prints and schematics.
- Strong troubleshooting and repair skills.
- Proficiency in diagnosing machine malfunctions, adjusting, disassembling mechanical sub-assemblies, replacing broken or worn parts, and reassembling.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Positive attitude and strong work ethic.
- Knowledge of general industrial maintenance.
- Ability to perform basic SAP transactions, such as printing work orders and time reporting.
Work Environment
This position requires knowledge of industrial sites and may involve outdoor work with exposure to various weather conditions. Protective gear is required as needed. This role may also require addressing urgent issues outside regular business hours, including weekends and holidays. Employees will frequently be exposed to moving mechanical parts, wet or humid conditions, high places, fumes, airborne particles, toxic chemicals, electrical hazards, and vibrations. The noise level is typically moderate.
