The Boeing Global Services (BGS) C-17 Avionics & Flight Controls (AVFC) team is seeking a Senior (Level 4) C-17 Support Equipment Engineer to perform Project Lead, Integration and Test activities in support of current and future development programs.
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the Long Beach, CA facility.
This position reports to the Avionics Capability Delivery Manager for the AVFC organization. This position requires someone that is inspiring and self-motivated with exceptional people skills and leadership abilities. C-17 Engineering is a people first, customer focused organization and the ability to build strong customer relationships while driving execution is a must. Looking for a dynamic person that is ready to take on challenging work and provide guidance and support to the team. This role requires working closely with C-17 Support Equipment and with other teams in the C-17 Sustainment Engineering and Support Systems teams. Areas of execution will include project development, project management, laboratory component test, system integration, and formal software qualification.
Position Overview:
The successful candidate will possess a wide range of Project Lead experience throughout the development lifecycle. Developing and leading Support Equipment projects will be a staple of this position, with coordinating, tracking and generally driving adherence to schedule and budgetary requirements a continuous focus. Software and hardware integration will also be a task of this position, using multiple Avionics busses such as Mil-Standard-1553B and ARINC-429. Commercial buses such as Ethernet, RS-232, RS-422 and USB are heavily used as well. Working with internal and external customers to ensure all requirements are met, possessing a disciplined engineering method, and exhibiting strong communication skills are all requirements for the position. The ability to rapidly develop an understanding of the products is essential, leading to rapid transition into the ability to contribute. The selected candidate will be adept at creating and maintaining project schedules and Power Point presentations.

Position Responsibilities:
Project development, schedule validation and task coordination
Cross functional engineering, integration, and issue resolution
Customer interfacing with project development milestones (MS PowerPoint)
Collaboration with project schedules, assessing impacts, risks and opportunities.
Communicating across various teams and functions, fostering collaboration and building consensus.
Working in a team environment, and under minimal and strategic direction
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Engineering
Experience in Project Engineering / Project Integration
7+ years' experience with avionics or Support Equipment project
Ability to identify issues, propose effective solutions, and drive technical execution independently.
Being capable of managing a subsystem or component with minimal oversight.
Possessing a strong commitment to completing projects on schedule while ensuring first-time quality.
Experience with aircraft communications buses and protocols - knowledge of how to interface with aircraft boxes, interpret binary data and handle custom communication protocols over avionics buses such as ARINC 429, MIL-STD-1553B.
Familiarity with hardware-software integration and troubleshooting - Ability to diagnose data flow, timing issues and interface mismatches using tools like protocol analyzers, logs and signal testers.
Excellent written and verbal skills
Ability to work seamlessly with team members at different geographical locations
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
Automated Test Equipment - a good understanding of automated test equipment and be able to write unit test cases to support problem reports and test program sets.
Experience in application development and integration.
Avionics software development experience
Familiarity with USAF Technical Orders
Familiarity with USAF Support Equipment
Education:
- Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), computer science, engineering data science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience or non-US equivalent qualifications. In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard

Summary pay range for Level 4: 128,350 - 173,650
