Responsibilities

As a Design Engineer, you are responsible design, development and documentation of various system elements which make up the products of the Valmet - Biddeford. Responsibilities include the completion of design and production documentation within established engineering schedules and budgets. This person must also ensure that designs meet customer performance expectations, process and structural requirements, as well as our internal goals for product quality, safety and cost.

What will you do at Valmet?

  • Develop design concepts, layouts and other engineering documentation for various system elements working with Project Managers, Structural Engineers, Process Engineers, other Designers and Manufacturing staff to assure designs meet customer expectations, performance criteria and cost targets.

  • Perform basic design and structural analysis of system elements and components to ensure that designs meet application criteria for static loading, dynamic loading and service life. Provide calculations to structural engineers for verification.

  • Effectively manage design hours, budgets and other engineering activities to assure assigned engineering work is completed on time and within established budgets.

  • Provides design leadership on small projects.

  • Utilize existing designs, design standards, drafting standards and CAD practices so project costs are reduced, lead times are shortened and manufacturing issues are minimized.

  • Assist Project Managers in the preparation of Operation and Maintenance Manuals.

  • Assist in the development of universally acceptable design and drafting standards which are accurate and easily implemented by both internal and external "customers".

  • Position may require travel up to 15% for field measure-up trips, on-site troubleshooting, or installation advisory support.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Civil Engineering or related engineering discipline.

  • Minimum of 2 years design experience in a similar manufacturing business.

  • Must have a working knowledge of AutoCAD and a 3D software. Preferred to have experience using Catia V6 / 3DExperience.

  • Knowledge of sheet metal fabrication technologies is also preferred.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
