Primary Purpose

Provides support to the Park Maintenance Division by assisting with various park improvement projects, fabrication tasks, and prop making for Special Events and Programming.

Supervision

Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Parks Maintenance Superintendent and the overall supervision of the Maintenance Superintendent, or as assigned.

  1. Works as a member of a crew to perform the general beautification, cleaning, upkeep, and maintenance of city parks, greenway areas, city owned landscaped areas, and the grounds surrounding municipal buildings inclusive of trimming, mowing, tree care, landscaping, trash removal, etc.
  2. Assists with Parks & Recreation Special Event & Programming prop making.
  3. Assists with occasional welding, concrete, carpentry and other parks projects.
  4. Assists Parks and Recreation Department during times of special events.
  5. Uses power tools, heavy and light machinery in a proficient and safe manner. (i.e. drill, saw, mower, skid steer etc.)
  6. Deals effectively and courteously with fellow employees and the public.
  7. Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

General knowledge and ability in basic building techniques, familiar with tools and equipment as well as being able to work in various conditions. Organizational/planning skills. Verbal and written communication skills. Basic Computer skills. Ability to troubleshoot, modify, and maintain maintenance equipment. Must be able to memorize and retain information. Must have good time management skills. Must have good cognitive and analytical skills. Must be able to handle stressful situations. Must be able to quickly judge and assess situations. Must be able to make decisions under pressure in areas of responsibility. Must possess manual ability to operate a computer.

  • Must be at least 16 years of age.

Miscellaneous Requirements

  • May be required to work a variety of shifts including nights, weekends, or holidays.
  • Must be a dependable person due to the small size of the work force.
  • May be subject to random substance abuse testing.

Physical Demands

Performs bending, squatting, crawling, twisting, kneeling, and reaching to ground level and overhead; Must be able to reach, grip and hold; Must be able to lift 50 pounds above their head; Must be able to push, pull and carry 60 pounds.
