Background Check Information
Due to the nature of this position, the successful applicant must pass a required background check through fingerprinting and enrollment in the continuous RAP Back (Record of Arrest and Prosecution Back) program in accordance with current County Human Resources policy requirements.
JOB SUMMARY
Provides supervision of staff and coordinates the maintenance, repair, and operation of the HVAC systems in all Salt Lake County Facilities. Inspects projects, prioritizes schedules, and trains and mentors staff. Performs journey-level HVAC work.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Seven (7) years of experience within the HVAC trade, of which five (5) years must have been in service and repair, of which one (1) year must have been supervisory.
- Graduation from a recognized HVAC training program is preferred.
- Must possess a current EPA Universal refrigerant certification at the time of hire.
- Must possess a current Rocky Mountain Gas Association (RMGA) certification at the time of hire.
- A strong background in Alerton DDC controls programming, installation, and networking is preferred.
- A valid Drivers License issued by the State of Utah shall be required at the time of hire.
- Due to the nature of this position, the successful applicant must pass a required background check through fingerprinting and enrollment in the continuous RAP Back (Record of Arrest and Prosecution Back) program in accordance with current County Human Resources policy requirements.
- Must receive a verified negative test result on a mandatory drug test before starting in this position. Will be subject to random alcohol and drug testing. May be subject to post-accident and reasonable suspicion alcohol and drug testing.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Supervises staff which includes hiring, orienting, training, assigning, and reviewing work performance, annual work performance appraisals, and discipline.
- Oversees the installation, maintenance, and replacement of HVAC equipment.
- Provides guidance and support in the maintenance of the County's HVAC building management systems, including electronic, pneumatic, and DDC systems.
- Manages and coordinates projects, determining project parameters, manpower, and budget requirements.
- Work with Facilities Management Administration in Commissioning and Retro-commissioning services for new and existing County buildings.
- Meets regularly with the Building Managers from various County agencies to discuss questions and concerns, internal billing, service contract issues, equipment/supply needs, evaluation of work methods, productivity, etc.
- Ensures that tools, equipment, and materials used by Section personnel are properly maintained and tracked. Researches and recommends the use of new technologies, methods, tools, and equipment.
- Monitors repair history reports and the status of preventive maintenance tasks. Modifies ongoing preventive maintenance programs as customer or equipment needs change.
- Performs journey-level HVAC work.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSA)
Knowledge of:
- Commercial HVACR / Construction Trade installation, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance
- Safe handling and operation of tools and equipment as pertains to the HVACR Trades
- Control systems, electronic, pneumatic, DDC
- Building requirements IE: LEED and Energy Star
- Indoor air quality requirements set forth by OSHA, FM Global Insurance, and Accessibility as relates to HVAC
- Effective planning principles, methods, and techniques
- Principles of design and installation of mechanical systems
- Public relations and communication skills
Skills and Abilities to:
- Troubleshoot effectively to see what needs to be repaired, remodeled, replaced, or enhanced
- Interpret building plans, specifications, and schematics
- Assist with project planning and estimations
- Maintain communication and customer service skills
- Supervise, train, and instruct HVACR Technicians
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position requires regular extensive physical labor including lifting, pushing, pulling, carrying objects 50 pounds and over, kneeling, bending, standing, walking, and climbing ladders. Work is occasionally performed in confined spaces, in hot or cold environments such as rooftops or equipment rooms, and in noisy environments. May be exposed to outside weather conditions and elements.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING THIS POSITION
This position is subject to being called to work before or after the scheduled shift. Must be available for 24-hour call-out when needed.
