Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, College and/or Technical Training Preferred;
  • Diesel Mechanic Experience, preferred;
  • Certified to work on Air Conditioning and have DPF System Experience;
  • Must have or be able to obtain a Missouri Class B CDL with S & P endorsements;
  • Must currently have or be able to obtain MO State Inspection Certification

Summary:

The mechanics primary duty is maintaining the district's fleet of busses, cars, service trucks and mowing equipment.

Essential Functions:

  • Diesel and gas mechanic doing both computer diagnostic and repair work.
  • Must be able to diagnose and repair transmission systems and components.
  • Must be able to repair hydraulic and anti-lock brake systems.
  • Must be able to diagnose and repair various chassis components, such as: front and rear axles, front and rear suspensions, steering drive-line, exhaust, electrical, clutch, body and frame.
  • Must be knowledgeable of Missouri regulations as they pertain to K-12 school busses.
  • Must be knowledgeable in reapairing electrical systems.
  • Must be knowledgeable in safely using all tools and equipment.
  • Must be able to establish and maintain records as they apply to vehicle maintenance, certification, insurance and warranty.
  • Must be able to establish and maintain adequate stores of repair parts, tires, and fuel.
  • Must be able to establish and maintain records and properly manage hazardous materials produced within the department.
  • Must be knowledgeable and capable of maintaining state certifications of the bus fleet at current levels of excellence.
  • Must have the ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Carry out all other duties assigned.

Physical Demands:

  • Occasionally lift, push or pull over 100 pounds
  • Lift, push, pull, and otherwise handle equipment and tools
  • Frequently squat or kneel to the ground
  • Frequently bend and twist while operating tools and equipment
  • Frequently walk up and down stairs
  • Frequently use repetitive arm, wrist and hand movements
  • Use close, distance and peripheral vision as well as depth perception

Conditions and Environment

Environment is that of a typical school and work shop settings. The individual who holds this position must:

  • Frequently work in temperatures below 32 degrees and above 100 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Occasionally work in rain, sleet and ice and drive on slippery conditions
  • Often work in an area with a high noise level including engine noise and the sound of many children speaking, a raised voice may be necessary
