Due to continued rapid growth and expansion of the Water Group in Ontario, we are seeking a Project Director Water to be based in our Waterloo office, with diversified experience in Business Development, project capture planning and proposal writing, design and management of municipal projects including Linear Infrastructure (sewers & water systems).

Responsibilities include:

  • Working with our Water Practice Business Development group to continue our expansion of water infrastructure market share in Ontario. Activities will include participating in client marketing sessions, assisting in developing market growth strategies, developing and executing project capture plans and preparing technical/financial proposals.
  • As Project Director, providing technical, financial and project management leadership while working directly with Project Managers, Senior Engineers and technical teams in the execution of various ongoing projects. Work will include direct communication with clients and sub-consultants.
  • Connecting with and supporting GHDs Water business in Western Canada, particularly in the Greater Vancouver area. Work may include Business/Client Development in the West, as well as broad support on proposals and project execution.
  • Ensuring project and quality deliverables meet or exceed GHDs internal and external client quality objectives.
  • Leading and participating in training and, mentoring initiatives for junior and intermediate staff; participating in staff performance evaluations, and the execution of career development strategies.
  • Leading by example, to drive GHDs safety culture and performance

Skills, Competencies and Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering
  • Ontario Professional Engineer Designation (P.Eng.); British Columbia Professional Engineer Designation an asset.
  • 15+ years post-graduate experience, with a minimum of 10 years in water/sewer projects; experience with trenchless and rehabilitation projects an asset.
  • Proven track record in business development, project capture planning, and proposal writing.
  • Proven experience in technical and business leadership and management of linear infrastructure engineering and water projects and project teams, through both design and construction phases.
  • Proven capability in leading detailed design & management teams for major Linear Infrastructure projects.
  • Sewer/water condition assessment, rehabilitation, and new trenchless installation experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, logistics, equipment & methodology selection.
  • Familiarity with cost estimating & project scheduling related to Linear Infrastructure construction.
  • Experience in risk management analysis, evaluation and mitigation techniques.
  • Experience and comfort with detailed technical, financial and project risk-related client presentations.
  • Experience in preparation of detailed design reports & construction reporting.
  • Advanced communication and liaison skills, including with other technical disciplines, professionals, clients and third parties as needed.
  • Excellent verbal and report writing skills.
  • Excellent problem solving, decision making and teamwork skills.
