The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
- Provides subject matter expertise on survey field operations methods and procedures
- Ability to perform the duties of the surveyor responsibly, in-charge of various surveys statewide, including:
- Geodetic / Project control
- Mapping
- Boundary surveys
- Coordinates survey crew activities; monitors progress of the survey, analyzes processing and adjustment results; and/or develops and files surveys with the county.
- Provides survey training and support for statewide field and office personnel.
- Develops and/or updates training and procedure manuals.
- Develops standards and procedures for survey related issues.
- Conducts research, needs evaluation, and writing specifications for procurement of survey instruments.
- Develops and maintains liaison with project managers offices, region offices, design sections, and others to provide training and instruction in field survey procedures including both conventional and electronic survey systems
- Works directly with survey crews to ensure proper and efficient use of automated survey equipment.
- Researches and develops new survey procedures for the utilization of automated survey equipment.
- Keeps abreast with advances in survey technology and/or acts as a source of information to field personnel.
- Ability to do outdoor standing and/or walking work every day
- Self-motivated, proactive with good interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate
- Valid drivers license (CDL not required)
- Excellent people management skills
- Professional communication with clients
- Flexibility to work in the office and field
- Proficiency in autoCAD, Total Station, GPS
- Bachelors degree
- Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license in California
- 9+ years of experience as a Professional Land Surveyor.
- E.I.T./S.I.T. Certification preferred
- Physical or Other Requirements:
- Physically capable of moving about on construction work sites, public streets and parkway
- Capable of lifting up to 40lbs
- Ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time.
- Ability to sit, kneel, and squat on a daily basis minimal frequency of kneeling and squatting
- Hand-eye coordination necessary to operate surveying equipment and measurements
