Land Surveyor

ESSENTIAL TASKS

The tasks listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

Operates and maintains the land surveying instruments.

Performs accurate note taking and data collection of land survey data for land surveys, layouts and other related activities as directed by Survey Crew Chief.

Performs some research for land survey evidence, maps, deed, physical evidence and other records to obtain data needed for surveys as directed by the supervisor.

Communicates with immediate supervisor, division heads and other customers to exchange information concerning land survey projects.

Assist in the preparation of plats, maps, reports or other forms of media to effectively relay or present necessary information.

Review and recommend the purchase of equipment and materials necessary to accurately and efficiently perform job duties.

Performs general clerical work as required, including but not limited to preparing records and reports, attending meetings, entering and retrieving computer data, copying and filing documents, etc.

Attends meetings, training, seminars, etc., as required to enhance job knowledge and skills. Stays current with industry standards, software updates, and safety regulations.

VOCATIONAL EDUCATIONAL PREPARATION:

Requires high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by formal training, special courses or specialized advanced training in land surveying or a closely related field. An associate degree in surveying, civil engineering technology, or a related discipline is preferred.

High School Diploma and 2 to 3 years of experience in a related field.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:

Must possess a valid state driver's license. Certification as a Survey Technician (CST) or ability to obtain within one year is preferred.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Requires over two years of land surveying or closely related knowledge. Experience in operating GPS and robotic total stations is highly desirable.
