Department:**Department of Public Works\**Supervisor:**Public Works Director\**Union Status:**Union\**Salary:**\$28.76 - \$33.87 p/hr.\**Position:**Full-time\**Hours:**40 hrs./wk.\**FLSA:**Non-Exempt**Position Summary:**Under the general supervision of the Public Works Director, the Mechanic/ MEO Laborer performs general maintenance and repair of motorized andnon-motorized equipment. Mechanic / MEO Laborer also operates heavymotorized equipment and performs duties in the care and maintenance ofTown streets and sidewalks, public lands and buildings throughout theTown of Dracut. Specific worksites and assignments may vary to meet theneeds of the Town as assigned through the Public Works Director ordesignee.**Supervision:**Works under the direct supervision of the Public Works Directorfollowing established rules, regulations, and policies to completeassigned tasks according to a prescribed time schedule.**Essential Duties and Responsibilities:**The essential functions or duties listed below are illustrations of thetype of work performed. The omission of specific statements of dutiesdoes not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related,or a logical assignment to the position.Mechanic / MEO Laborer will perform general maintenance and repair ofmotorized and non-motorized equipment, operate heavy motorized equipmentto maintain streets, sidewalks, public lands, open space, and publicbuildings located throughout the Town of Dracut. Specific worksites andassignments may vary on a daily and/or hourly basis to meet the needs ofthe Town as assigned through the Public Works Director or designee.Mechanic / MEO Laborer, under the direction and supervision of thePublic Works Director or other designated personnel:- Repairs and maintains motorized and non-motorized equipment.- Procures parts, materials and supplies to maintain department equipment in good working order- Operates any motor driven equipment including trucks, tractors, road rollers, rotary snow fighters, tar distributors, road sweepers, leaf loaders, road flushers, hoisting equipment and hydraulic equipment, pay loaders, and any and all Town owned equipment.- Loads and unloads trucks, picks up and hauls materials, plows and salts streets, sidewalks, roadways, parking lots and any other area designated by the Public Works Director or designee.- Greases, oils and cleans equipment, changes tires, and performs minor preventative maintenance.- Performs a variety of generalized labor duties including but not limited to shoveling snow, digging holes and other excavation, cleaning litter and debris from streets, masonry, and any other work assigned by the Public Works Director or his designee.- Trims shrubs and trees along sidewalks and roadways, mows grass using hand or power equipment, removes snow and ice and applies salt either manually or using small, powered equipment.- Performs other related duties as required by the Public Works Director or designee.**Recommended Minimum Qualifications:**The following requirements may be substituted by any equivalentcombination of education, training, and experience which provides thenecessary knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job.To be considered for the position, applicants must have at least:**Education and Experience:**High school diploma or equivalent.Minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical, automotive and heavyequipment repair work.Working knowledge of diesel engines
