Conducts annual fire inspections within the Cortez city limits for allcommercial buildings and facilities. May also perform fire and propertymaintenance inspections on private dwellings as needed. Inspects existingstructures, construction, and remodel sites for compliance with firecodes. Resolves compliance problems with owners within the scope of knowledgeand authority.Coordinates with the Building Official regarding inspections for liquorlicense holders and liquor license reviews. Assists in other department sadministrative activities as assigned.Assists the Building Official in conducting plan reviews and inspectionsduring construction for residential and commercial structures. Assists otherCity departments in preparing code compliant projects for the City. Attendsvarious meetings as directed by the Building Official.Responsible for keeping records for fire inspections, buildinginspections, property maintenance inspections, and reports as needed or asdirected.Responds to complaints regarding code violations and fire hazards. Abides byall applicable State statutes and City regulations, by-laws and policies.Contacts property owners and issues warnings and citations for codeviolations. Works with property owners and helps determine proper steps tobring situations into compliance.Works with and aids Cortez Code Division, Police and Fire ProtectionDistrict to resolve cross-department issues such as marijuana enforcement,fire code violations, nuisance buildings, etc.Ability to work closely and effectively with the Cortez Fire ProtectionDistrict.Sometimes negative and possible hostile environment. Adverse weatherconditions. Combination of field and office settings.Requirements:Be a high school graduate or equivalent. Have a valid Colorado driver slicense. Must obtain ICC Certified Fire Inspector l and Residential BuildingInspector certifications within 12 months of date-of-hire as a condition ofemployment. Ability to read, understand, and enforce the adopted fire,building, land Use, and municipal code administered by the city.Other Requirements:Must be a career-motivated self-starter that is able to work independently andmaintain a positive, productive attitude in all aspects of the daily workroutine. Experience in/knowledge of building trades preferred.
