Job Summary
Performs advanced skilled work in the maintenance and repair of electrical equipment. Work is performed under regular supervision.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Installs, maintains and repairs electrical systems.
Repairs electrical systems in City facilities.
Installs control cabling in electrical substations. Assists in installation and wiring of electric substation equipment.
Installs new parts; repairs or replaces defective parts.
Maintains all lighting fixtures including bulbs, ballasts and switches.
Install low voltage drops and fiber optic cables.
Maintains all fans, both ceiling and wall mounted.
Repairs electrical systems in appliances.
Installs and maintains motor and control circuits.
Troubleshoots and repairs problems with electrical systems.
Wires electrical low and high voltage electrical systems.
Performs related tasks as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of the standard practices, tools and terminology of the electrical trade
Thorough knowledge of electrical theory
Thorough knowledge of three phase electrical systems
Thorough knowledge of 480 volt systems
Thorough knowledge of the safety hazards of the work and of the necessary safety precautions
Skill in the use of electrical maintenance and repair equipment
Ability to make repairs to complex electrical wiring, fixtures and equipment
Ability to work above ground
Ability to perform manual work over extended periods of time
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent; four (4) years' industrial, commercial and residential electrical wiring experience; Master Electrician license preferred; Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities and other competencies necessary for the position.
Licenses, Certifications, Special Requirements:
Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the State of Florida.
Possession of Journeyman Electrician license
Physical and Mental Demands:
The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions. Essential Physical Skills:
May be required to assist crews in substation activities requiring exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Visual acuity needed for depth perception and identification of small objects and imperfections.
Vocal communication to communicate information accurately loudly or quickly.
Hearing is required to receive information at normal spoken volumes.
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Mental Demands:
Required to use written and oral communication skills
Read and interpret data, information and documents
Work under deadlines with constant interruptions
Ability to organize, supervise, and review a workforce specialized in the highly technical field of electric utility operation.
Must have knowledge of the principles and practices of electric utility construction, operation, and maintenance.
Must possess a general knowledge of all tools of the trade: apparatuses, devices, and vehicles.
Ability to remain calm in stressful situations
