This position can sit in one of ourrail offices inTacoma, Salt Lake City, Portland or Denver. The ideal candidate will be ahighly motivated leader and self-starter, bringing a wealth of experienceand technical expertise to a range of multi-disciplinary rail projects. Inthis role, you will leverage your specialized skills to lead a team toperform design, transforming innovative concept designs into detailedconstruction drawings and comprehensive technical specifications. Join usin making a positive impact on the future of transit and rail systems!Key Responsibilities:Technical Leadership: Serve as a design lead and provide technical expertiseon railroad or civil engineering/design projects, including design ofutilities, grading, drainage, erosion control, roadway design, sitedevelopment, terminal, track design and more. Oversee all aspects ofproject design and ensure compliance with client engineering standards,codes, and regulations ranging from feasibility analysis to final design,and through to construction phase activities (including procurement, bidsupport, and construction submittals)Construction Documentation Preparation: Prepare, review, and completedetailed construction documents, plans utilizing Bentley OpenRail DesignerorBentley MicroStationsoftware, technical reports, specifications, andaccurate cost estimates for various projects, confirming thoroughness andclariProject Management and Collaboration: Manage projects to ensure timely,budget-conscious, high-quality project deliverables that meet or exceedindustry standards.Quality Assurance: Conduct technical reviews of design calculations,estimates, specifications, plans and work produced by other staff.Implement DEA's quality assurance and quality control procedures,maintaining high standards throughout the project lifecycle.Site Engagement: Lead and/or actively participate in project meetings andconduct site visits and field inspections as necessary to maintain projectalignment with design specifications and client goals.Post-Design Support: Provide critical post-design construction supportservices, addressing contractor Requests for Information (RFIs),conducting submittal reviews, assisting in as-built preparation, andperforming field observations to maintain design integrity duringconstruction.Coordination: Collaborate effectively with project teams and stakeholders onall aspects of project execution, including project set-up, drafting,design, quality review, and project coordination and organization.Coordinate with other project disciplines including structural,architectural, geotechnical, surveying, and others. Proactively resolveproject design issues, facilitate project coordination, and maintainpositive relationships with clients and team members to promote acollaborativeBusiness Development: leading or participating in marketing and contractingactivities. Estimate, plan and allocate staff resources to align withproject commitments and proposals for future work.Leadership and Mentoring: Manage, lead, and mentor junior engineers andproject managers, fostering their professional growth and supporting them indelivering high-quality project contributions.Perform other duties as assigned.Basic Qualifications:Bachelor's degree incivil engineeringor a related engineering field.Professional Engineer (PE) licenseMinimum of10 years' experiencein civil engineering design, with a focus onfreight rail land development projects.Experience within the railroadengineering industry and familiarity with railroad design guidelines,specifications, a d design criteria.Strong ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively in ateam-oriented environment.Ability to travel periodically for client visits, business development andproject work.Experience with delivering projects for BNSF, UPRR, CPKC, NS and/orindustry rail.Proven track record in winning and delivering projects and buildingtransportation business.An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of ouremployee-owned culture.Proficiency with Microsoft Office software and communication toolsExcellent communication skills, attention to detail, and organizationaltraits.
