Position Overview: We are working with a leading Mechanical Contractor in the Chantilly VA area to find an experienced Lead Design Engineer - MEP. Our client is one of the leading mechanical contractors in the Washington, DC area. Their construction experience includes HVAC & Plumbing for large Multi-Family & Commercial projects. They need a well-qualified, energetic Design Engineer P.E. that will focus on mechanical design-related activities including performing calculations, selecting equipment, and supporting the development of construction documents, such as drawings, specifications and support fieldwork including existing condition surveys, progress field reports, and project close-out punch lists. The Design Engineer P.E. will plan, direct, coordinate and evaluate the activities and performance of direct reports. This person needs to be a leader who helps to mentor and teach junior engineers. Key Responsibilities: Perform calculations and analysis to support design decisions and ensure mechanical or system integrity In support of Project Operations and various project site locations develop and implement engineering solutions for projects, ensuring they meet safety, quality, and regulatory standards Review, interpret and provide technical guidance to project operations and related departments in the technical requirements of contract specifications, and plans and the Engineer of Record recommendations and guidance Oversee engineering projects from inception to completion, including budgeting, scheduling, and coordinating resources Collaborate with internal departments, project operations, architects, contractors, and clients to ensure project specifications and timelines are met Supervise and mentor junior engineers and technical staff Ensure that all designs and engineering work adhere to local, state, and federal regulation Provide expertise in troubleshooting, design modifications, or system improvements as required Qualifications: BS Mechanical Engineering degree from an ABET-accredited university program. Professional Engineering (P.E.) licensure. Maintain and renew P.E. license through continuing education and adherence to professional development requirements Significant working knowledge of federal, state and local laws governing financial and accounting practices Significant technical knowledge of engineering concepts, fundamentals, applications, construction contract language and terms.
