Minimum Qualifications:High school diploma or GED preferred; supplemented by five years of experience in the construction, repair, and/or maintenance of public infrastructure or a related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Class B Commercial Driver's License; some assignments may require a Georgia Class A Commercial Driver's License and/or special endorsements; must obtain and maintain Flagging Certification within the timeframes established by the department. A Water Distribution or Collection System Operator License may be required depending on departmental assignment.
Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities : Must be skilled in the maintenance and repair of assigned infrastructure with knowledge of all associated procedures and regulations. Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all county or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.

The examination will consist of an evaluation of education and experience, accomplished by analysis of the application. Purpose of Classification:
The purpose of this classification is to supervise, plan, and coordinate construction, maintenance and repair projects for County streets, storm drainage, water and sewer facilities and systems. Crew Supervisors are distinguished from Crew Leaders in that the former supervise a larger crew responsible for multiple projects. Essential functions are identical to those of Crew Supervisor, however Crew Supervisor, Seniors supervise crews responsible for larger, more technically complex projects in water and sewer, traffic signal maintenance, and similarly complex areas.
Essential Functions:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
Coordinates work activities; prioritizes and assigns daily work activities; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; identifies and obtains needed equipment, materials and supplies for each project; demonstrates and enforces safety practices; ensures work meets quality standards; consults with assigned staff, assists with complex/problem situations, and provides technical expertise.
Conducts on-site work reviews; ensures full utilization of personnel, materials, and facilities with concern for quality, safety, and efficiency; ensures compliance with all applicable codes, laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, procedures, and specifications; ensures adherence to established safety procedures; monitors work environment and use of safety equipment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals.
Prepares operational and statistical reports of streets, water and sewer projects, maintenance activities and general operations; submits records and reports to state and federal authorities as required; and establishes and maintains related files.
Receives and responds to questions, requests and/or complaints from County residents, customers and the general public regarding assigned Public Works functions, projects and services;
Operates a variety of machinery, equipment, and tools associated with department projects, which may include a service truck, dump truck, backhoe, mini-excavator, bobcat, salt spreader, brush truck, leaf truck, asphalt packer, bucket truck, street sweeper, sewer flush truck, tractor, trailer, tamper, tapping machine, lawn mower, riding mower, edger, weed eater, chipper/mulcher, leaf blower, sod cutter, spreader, tiller, trencher, dragging equipment, chalk liner, paint machine, chain saw, power saw, hand saw, concrete saw, air compressor, pick axe, sledgehammer, rake, post hole digger, shovel, hand tools, measuring instruments, or twoway radio.
Performs general cleaning/maintenance tasks necessary to keep equipment and tools in operable condition, which may include inspecting equipment, checking/replacing fluids, refueling vehicles, performing minor equipment repairs, greasing equipment, sharpening blades, replacing parts, washing/cleaning equipment, or cleaning shop or work areas; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; reports faulty equipment.
Gathers equipment, tools, parts, and supplies needed to conduct work activities: ensures availability of adequate parts and materials to conduct work activities; initiates requests for new or replacement materials as required.
Prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, checklists, work orders, service tickets, notices, meter readings, vehicle/equipment maintenance records, or other documents.
Communicates with supervisor, other departments, employees, customers, the public, outside agencies, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
Performs manual labor in support of construction, maintenance, and upkeep projects: lifts, moves, loads, and unloads materials, equipment, tools, furniture, and supplies; digs ditches, trenches, and holes manually or utilizing power equipment; shovels, rakes, spreads, compacts, and levels dirt, rock, asphalt, cement, and other materials; retrieves supplies, materials, tools, equipment and other items and runs various errands as needed; collects and transports materials, supplies, tools, and equipment to and from the worksite; removes litter, debris, and deceased animals from roadways and other county property.
Follows established safety procedures: utilizes safety equipment and wears protective gear; monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals; monitors traffic conditions surrounding trucks/equipment to identify obstructions, pedestrians, or unsafe traffic conditions; flags and directs traffic and places markers, signs and cones around project/work site to ensure safety of crew and the traveling public; reports any incidents, accidents, problems, or unusual situations.
Additional Functions:
Provides coverage during special events/activities as needed; responds to emergency/disaster situations as needed; provides assistance to other employees or departments as needed; and performs other related duties as required.
