Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) is looking for a skilled and mission-driven Project Manager (Capital Projects Coordinator) to lead infrastructure projects that protect our citys water, improve drainage and sewer systems, and build a more resilient urban environment. Manage capital improvement projects from planning through closeout, ensuring alignment with scope, schedule, budget, and quality objectives
Lead cross-functional project teams and coordinate with internal staff, consultants, contractors, and regulatory agencies
Develop project schedules (using Critical Path Method), track budgets and forecasts, and manage project risks
Serve as the primary point of contact for project communication, including updates to leadership and outreach to community stakeholders
Ensure regulatory compliance, secure necessary permits, and oversee consultant procurement and contract administration
Integrate SPUs Race and Social Justice Initiative into project delivery to support equitable infrastructure outcomes
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Business Administration, Urban Planning or related field OR two (2) years of additional relevant experience
AND
Experience: Three (3) years project or construction management or related experienceDesired Qualifications: SPU recognizes that not every candidate will have the following desired qualifications. The ideal candidate will have some of the following qualifications and a strong desire to learn the others:
Experience in design and construction management, including contract negotiation, procurement, and resource planning
Experience project scheduling using critical path methods and tools such as Primavera or Microsoft Project
Strong problem-solving and risk management skills to identify, assess, and address project challenges
Working knowledge of construction practices, building codes, environmental regulations, and safety standards
Familiarity with municipal, state, and federal regulatory requirements affecting infrastructure projects
Ability to lead cross-functional teams and external consultants without direct supervisory authority; skilled in team coordination and conflict resolution
Experience planning and facilitating public meetings; capable of translating technical concepts into clear, accessible language and incorporating community feedback into project delivery
License, Certification and Other Requirements :
Current Washington State driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility
- Most work is performed in a normal City work/office environment
- Field assignments entail exposure to all types of weather and hazardous construction sites
This position allows for the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule. Effective January 2025, City employees will have the option to work remotely two days a week. Individual schedules will be agreed u pon by the employee and their supervisor.

The full salary range for this position is: $54.02 - $63.14 Hourly
