P rimary Purpose:
Under general supervision, perform skilled work in construction, alteration, repair, and installation of fixtures, buildings, and structures throughout the district. Maintain district structures and furniture in attractive and safe condition.
E ducation/Certification:
High school diploma or GED, valid Texas driver’s license
S pecial Knowledge/Skills:
- Ability to use hand and power tools
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to read blueprints and diagrams
- Ability to measure and perform mathematical computations
- Knowledge of equipment, materials, methods, practices, and tools used in carpentry
- Acceptable driving record
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions in English
- Ability to communicate with others in English
E xperience:
Five years experience as skilled carpenter
Essential Job Functions :
- Plan and complete construction of cabinets, shelves, and partitions from initial layout to assembly using oral instructions, plans, specifications, blueprints, and work orders.

- Fabricate, repair, and replace doors, windows, flooring, ceiling materials, glass, building hardware, screens, plastic laminate, et
- Construct and repair outdoor equipment including playground equipment, fences, gates, bleachers, et
- Detect needed repairs on buildings, grounds, and equipment by following established inspection procedures.
- Replace, repair, and finish furniture, cabinets, fixtures, woodwork, et
- Assist with the installation of portable buildings, including constructing steps, installing underpinning, et
- Receive and complete work orders.Maintain accurate records on material and labor used.
- Maintain inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and material
- Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean and remove scraps and lumber as needed.
- Work with building principals and supervisors to complete projects.
- Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment.
- Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
- Ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition.
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing,
- Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.

- Inspect building exterior and interior, playground equipment, and grounds; perform maintenance and minor repair
- Detect and report needed major repairs on building structures and their systems, including lockers, furniture, and equipment.
- Complete repairs as requested on work orders or by the Coordinator of Maintenance & Grounds.
- Operate light truck to transport furniture and equipment throughout district.
- Work irregular hours and respond to after-hours emergency calls as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or other administrator that are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications for the position.

Power saw, planer, drill press, sander, band saw, table saw, radial arm saw, nail gun, air compressor, other power equipment, measuring devices, ladders, forklift, elevated lift equipment, and light truck or van.

Demonstrate strength and dexterity to operate tools, mowers and landscaping equipment. Occasionally required to work from ladders; exposed to noise from power equipment; and exposed to fumes and toxic chemicals. Generally, the job requires 5% sitting, 50% walking, and 45% standing. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and hazardous conditions and requires frequent districtwide travel.
