The purpose of the HVAC/Energy Management Systems Tech II is to utilize expert skills as a HVAC technician and work as the crew supervisor to ensure all HVAC and mechanical systems are maintained properly, repaired promptly, and new systems are designed and installed correctly when needed.
Responsibilities of the HVAC/Energy Management Systems Tech II:
- Supervises staff to include preparing performance planning and evaluation documents and related personnel paperwork. Coaches, counsels and trains employees. Establishes and monitors work processes. Implements management policies and initiatives and promotes teamwork.
- As a working supervisor, perform and supervise complex maintenance and repair tasks on mechanical systems to include 28 historical museum aircraft, fleet of 12 motorized wheeled vehicles, and over 100 shipboard/landside HVAC systems. Functions as Mechanical Shop supervisor and HVAC repair technician. Inspect all HVAC units on a periodic basis and keep accurate records of conditions found. Plan, conduct, and supervise preventive maintenance on all units that will extend the life of the systems and minimize system replacement costs. Conducts preventive maintenance and schedules repairs to all vehicles and museum aircraft. Adheres to all safety and environmental regulations required by the Agency.
- Design and install replacement HVAC systems and associated ductwork. When necessary, work with engineers and contractors to ensure that all systems are designed properly. Oversee vehicle fleet maintenance and contracted repairs as required. Conducts preventive maintenance and makes repairs to historic museum aircraft to include fabrication of parts and works with outside aircraft maintenance contractors when necessary.
- As a supervisor, serves as a key member of the management team. Provides input to senior management when policies, schedules, budgets and priorities are being developed. Must be responsive to seniors in management, adhere to established policies and maintain accurate records of work planned and accomplished. Suggestions for improvements shall be made to seniors in the organizational structure. Deal with personnel issues in a way that shows appropriate concern for subordinates but places the interests of the Agency as highest priority.
- Employee may be required to work after normal working hours, on weekends, holidays, emergencies and or special events. Employee may be required to perform other duties as assigned to accomplish the mission of the Agency.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
High school diploma and experience in the installation and maintenance of HVAC systems or in the operation and maintenance of HVAC mechanical and building control systems.
Additional Requirements:
- Position may require employee to work evenings, weekends, and during emergency situations.
- Position requires on-call shifts and call back hours.
- Position requires routine driver duties.
- Position requires frequent climbing, stooping, and/or bending.
- Position requires frequent lifting: 50 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience with shipboard electrical systems is preferred but not required.
