BASIC PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The Structural Engineer will provide design, analysis, and inspection support for onshore facilities, pipeline infrastructure, and offshore platforms. This role ensures the structural integrity and safety of fixed and floating structures while adhering to applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements. The position involves coordinating with multi-disciplinary teams to support capital projects, facility modifications, and maintenance programs across upstream oil and gas operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform structural design, analysis, and modeling for offshore platforms, onshore processing facilities, and pipeline facilities using industry-standard software.
  • Evaluate existing infrastructure for load capacity, seismic compliance, and corrosion impact; recommend upgrades or repairs as needed.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, drawings, material takeoffs, and technical specifications.
  • Conduct field inspections of structural components, prepare condition assessment reports, and support construction and installation activities.
  • Coordinate with civil, mechanical, and process engineers to ensure integrated design across capital and maintenance projects.
  • Support regulatory permitting and compliance efforts by preparing documentation for the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM), Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE), Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA), and other relevant authorities.
  • Assist in structural integrity management programs and participate in risk-based inspection planning.
  • Provide technical support during fabrication, transportation, and installation phases of projects.
  • Support the review and approval of third-party design packages and contractor submittals.
  • Participate in incident investigations and root cause analysis involving structural failures or anomalies.
  • Must work onsite daily in Goleta, CA.
  • Perform other related duties and special projects assigned.

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural Engineering or Engineering
  • 5 years of structural engineering experience in the oil & gas industry.
  • California Professional Engineering (PE) license or EIT working toward PE preferred.
  • Proficiency in structural analysis software (e.g., STAAD.Pro, SACS, RISA).
  • Familiarity with API RP 2A, AISC, ASCE, and other offshore/onshore industry codes.
  • Strong understanding of environmental loads including wind, wave, seismic, and operational impacts.
  • Experience working in coastal or offshore environments with knowledge of corrosion and fatigue design considerations.
  • Excellent communication and technical writing skills.
  • Ability to travel to offshore platforms, onshore facilities, and pipeline sites as needed.
  • Experience with subsea and topside structural design.
  • Familiarity with pipeline route selection and structural supports for risers and spans.
  • Prior involvement in brownfield modifications or platform requalification assessments.
  • Knowledge of fabrication, marine operations, and lifting/installation engineering.
  • Onsite work at Las Flores Canyon and ability to travel to offshore platforms and other Company locations as needed.
  • Split time between office, onshore processing facility, pipeline, and offshore platforms.
  • Must be able to climb stairs/ladders and work in confined or elevated spaces as needed.
  • Occasional offshore travel via helicopter or boat and overnight stays in platform accommodations.

PAY INFORMATION:

  • Annual Salary Pay Range: $180k - $225k

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The position requires manual dexterity to handle documents and operate office equipment such as printers, shredders, and computers. Also required is performing repetitive motions and extended periods of sitting, standing, and walking for varying lengths of time. The position requires interacting and communicating professionally with others via speaking, hearing, and writing; learning new tasks, processes, and concepts; thinking to solve problems; concentrating on required tasks; distinguishing color and depth perception; and reading data, figures, electronic and hard copy documents.

Visual and manual dexterity are extremely important for this position. The incumbent will be subject to performing sedentary to light work, exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, or constantly lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or otherwise moving objects, reaching overhead for items, stooping, bending, and twisting while working. Other physical activities include the ability to utilize fingers to feel and grasp objects or work devices as needed and manual dexterity in the use of the hands, seeing, talking, hearing, performing repetitive motions, and standing for long periods of time.

The position requires walking or traversing over and across uneven terrain, accessing areas outdoors and on or around equipment, over or around obstacles or structures such as pipes, low rails, and walls, stooping or bending to reach certain locations, climbing stairs or ladders, and exposure to outside weather conditions.

The position may require facility inspections, which necessitate wearing a respirator and personal protective equipment, such as gloves, gas masks, and suits, with an average weight of 10-25 pounds.
