Heavy Equipment Operator Job Description We are seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Operator who is proficient in operating Excavators, Dozers, Skid Steers, and more. The primary responsibility of this role is to operate heavy machinery, but candidates must also be willing to perform laborer duties when equipment operation is not required. Key tasks include digging trenches, setting and checking grades, laying pipe, and installing sanitary sewer lines, waterlines, and storm sewer lines. Additional responsibilities include rigging, interpreting drawings/blueprints, and managing a small crew if capable. The projects primarily involve design build in commercial, industrial, and new housing additions. Responsibilities Operate heavy equipment such as Excavators, Dozers, and Skid Steers. Perform laborer duties including digging trenches, setting and checking grade, laying pipe, and installing sanitary sewer lines, waterlines, and storm sewer lines. Rigging tasks and interpreting/read drawings and blueprints. Manage a small crew when capable. Essential Skills Minimum of 2 years experience operating Heavy Equipment, specifically Excavators/Mini Excavators. Previous experience in pipe laying. Ability to lift 50+ lbs. Valid Driver's License. Additional Skills & Qualifications 5+ years of experience is preferred. Ability to read and interpret blueprints/drawings. CDL Endorsement. 30 Hour OSHA Training. Additional certifications such as CPR or Confined Space. Asphalt experience is highly advantageous. Why Work Here? Work Environment The work schedule is primarily Monday to Friday, starting at 7 am and concluding after an 8-10 hour day, totaling 45-50 hours per week. The role involves traveling within a 100-mile radius of the shop in Fort Wayne, with occasional overnight stays 1-2 days per week, ensuring weekends at home.
