Equipment Operator/Laborer

Under the general supervision of assigned supervisor, the employee operates various types of heavy equipment using advanced skills in the completion of highly complex and difficult construction and maintenance activities on City roads, properties, rights-of-way (ROW), and City utilities. The employee operates power tools and heavy equipment throughout the City on streets and utilities. The employee receives assignments from supervisor. Work is performed under established procedures with final inspection of completed work. Employee performs maintenance inspections on assigned equipment, notifies supervisor of equipment failures, and may assist with repairs. Employee performs other routine manual labor as assigned. The employee may serve as a work crew leader for specific tasks or assigned projects. This is a highly experienced and highly skilled job. Employee assists in training newer employees and serves as the crew leader at work sites. Minimum ofeight (8)yearsof work experience operatingheavyequipment in road construction and maintenance with at least three (3) years as an Equipment Operator III or equivalent; experience operating heavy equipment around or very close to public services (i.e., gas or electric); or any combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates the above listed knowledge, skills, and abilities commensurate with the requirements of this job. 2.
