Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:

Facilities Operations has the responsibility of providing a wide range of services to all administrative departments, student programs, and all academic schools and departments. Services include all aspects of corrective and preventive maintenance, operations, grounds maintenance, housekeeping, utility infrastructure maintenance and operations, business operations, safety, regulator compliance, project management, and renovations. These duties are conducted for a campus consisting of over 100 buildings totaling 6 million gross square feet on over 275 acres.

Position Summary:

The primary responsibility of this position is to inspect vehicles and equipment to diagnose issues and repair. This position will conduct routine maintenance to extend the life of university vehicles and equipment, performing vehicle tune-ups, tire rotations and changes, oil changes, wheel balancing and preventive maintenance. This position maintains records of all service and repair work and maintains inventory, records, and orders from suppliers in the state system.

This position is a mandatory position as defined in the Adverse Weather and Emergency Event Policy.

Minimum Qualifications:

HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA OR EQUIVALENCY; OR DEMONSTRATED POSSESSION OF THE COMPETENCIES NEEDED TO PERFORM THE WORK. OPTIONAL GUIDELINES: EXPERIENCE IN THE FIELD OF WORK RELATED TO THE POSITIONS ROLE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED ON A YEAR-FOR-YEAR BASIS.

Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate should possess or be able to obtain in a timely manner:

  • A current certification by the EPA as a Type I, II, Ill or Universal technician as required by 40 CFR part 82, subpart F;
  • A current MACS (Mobile Air Conditioning Society) Certification; and
  • A NCDMV: Vehicle Emissions & Safety Inspection Certification.

  • Brake diagnosis and repair;
  • Fuel system diagnosis and repair;
  • Tire replacement, to include mounting, balancing and repairs; and

  • Generate purchase requisitions as needed to make vehicle/equipment repairs.

  • Knowledgeable of the adverse weather plan and will participate with snow removal. This position is an essential position for all weather occurrences.
