Under the direction of the Facilities Operations Manager the Electrician and Special Systems Technician is responsible for the skillful and safe installation, alteration, maintenance, monitoring and repair of the University's electrical systems, all life safety systems, and access control systems

Responsibilities

Responsible to model the University Mission through dedicated job performance, service excellence to constituencies, respectful collaboration and active support of the University's Mission and Catholic and Lasallian higher education.

-Install, alter, maintain and repair electrical wiring systems, fixtures, transformers, lights, motors, etc.

-Troubleshoot, locate and correct power failures and/or short circuits.

-Install and repair air conditioners, ceiling fans and electrical heating units.

-Assist in the selection of all electrical maintenance materials.

-Assist in the cost and work order completion estimates for electrical projects.

-Assist in the wording and preparation of work orders requiring the knowledge and expertise of an electrician.

-Functional support in the development of a preventative and corrective maintenance program for the University's electrical systems.

-General repair and operational care of tools and equipment which may exceed the preventative maintenance schedule.

-Installs, maintains, and monitors all campus life safety systems, security systems, and access control systems.

-Diagnoses and corrects problems with the electronics relating to the university network and to the manufacturers software.

-Tests and calibrates systems to ensure functional reliability of operating/monitoring system.

-Diagnoses and resolves technical problems related to fire, smoke, or intrusion alarm systems.

-Maintains and repairs control or alarm systems as required.

-Reads modifies where necessary, appropriate system blueprints, and schematics.

-Maintains appropriate logs and records of control systems operations.

-Installs devices appropriate to operating/monitoring system.

-Assist in the selection of all electrical access control materials.

-Assist in the cost and work order completion estimates for access control projects.

-Assist in the wording and preparation of work orders requiring the knowledge and expertise of an Access Control/Low Voltage Technician.

-Functional support in the development of a preventative and corrective maintenance program for the University's Fire/Security/Access Control systems.

-General repair and operational care of tools and equipment which may exceed the preventative maintenance schedule.

-Perform basic repairs or maintenance to electrical fixtures such as, but not limited to exit signs, emergency lights, light fixtures, or other.

-Reassignment to other areas of Facilities in accordance with departmental needs, as determined by the Associate Vice President for Facilities

Minimum Qualifications

A high school diploma or equivalent with at least five years experience as an electrician. Possession of a valid Illinois D class drier's license. Possession of a variety of hand and power tools necessary to perform the maintenance work assigned. The ability to work outdoors in a variety of adverse weather conditions. The ability to work on a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week call system. At least two years' experience working on fire alarm systems and/or as an Access Control/Low Voltage Technician is preferred, but not required.

M-F 7 am to 3:30 pm is typical but must be able to be on call 7 days/week 24 hours/day.
