Oliver County Road Department is seeking a skilled and dependable Equipment Operator/Commercial Weed Sprayer

to join our Road and Bridge Department. This position is responsible for operating heavy equipment in the maintenance and construction of county roads, ditches, and rights-of-way.

Key Responsibilities Equipment Operator:

- Operate heavy equipment.

- Perform routine maintenance on equipment including inspections, lubrications, and minor repairs.

- Monitor road conditions and report any necessary repairs or hazards.

- Assist with other road maintenance activities such as patching, snow removal, grading ditches, and clearing debris.

- Ensure safe operation of equipment in various weather and terrain conditions.

- Complete required logs, forms, and documentation accurately.

- Follow safety guidelines and county policies at all times.

Key Responsibilities Commercial Weed Sprayer:

- Apply weed control by using spraying equipment using the correct chemicals for the control of noxious weeds along roadways in Oliver County

- Operate and use application equipment: four-wheel drive, application delivery systems, shovels, etc.

- Responsible for mixing the application of herbicides, maintenance of all application equipment, appearance and cleanliness of the facility, properly disposing of empty chemical containers and materials

- Perform work tasks in a safe manner; monitor safety procedures, conduct safety meetings, check for safe working practices and effectively communicate these to employees; compile and make available Safety Data Sheets (SDS) to all spray applicators

- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level

Qualifications:

- High school diploma or GED required.

- At least 2 years of experience operating a motor grader or similar heavy equipment preferred.

- Valid CDL (Class A or B) or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire.

- Knowledge of road construction techniques and safety practices.

- Commercial Chemical Applicator License (or able to obtain within 30 days of hire)

- Identify noxious weeds

- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

- Willingness to work outside in various weather conditions.
