Structural Fitter Job Description A Structural Fitter is responsible for assembling, fitting, and installing structural components according to blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications. This role is essential in industries such as construction, shipbuilding, oil and gas, and manufacturing. Responsibilities Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications. Measure, cut, and align metal components using hand tools, power tools, and welding equipment. Fit and assemble structural frameworks and components such as beams, girders, and columns. Perform tack welding, bolting, or riveting to secure parts in place. Inspect completed assemblies for accuracy and quality. Operate cranes, hoists, and other lifting equipment to position heavy components. Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work area. Collaborate with welders, fabricators, and engineers to ensure project accuracy. Essential Skills High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or apprenticeship. Experience as a structural fitter or in a similar role. Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings. Proficiency with hand and power tools, welding, and metal fabrication techniques. Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills. Physical stamina and ability to work in various environments (e.g., heights, confined spaces). Additional Skills & Qualifications Installation and pipe fitting skills.
