TITLE: Supervisor, Building Operations

JOB OVERVIEW: Supervise and coordinate utility operation activities at Valley Medical Center. Oversees specialized trades including Boilers, HVAC, Electrical, Electronics, Central Utility Plant (CUP), Plumbing, Cabling and Refrigeration Shop. Ensure all systems are maintained and operated in accordance with regulatory standards, safety guidelines, and hospital-specific requirements to support uninterrupted healthcare services.

DEPARTMENT: Plant Management

WORK HOURS: As required to fulfill responsibilities. Some flexibility may be required to meet organizational needs.

REPORTS TO: Director, Facilities Engineering

PREREQUISITES:

  • College degree, or successful completion of a related apprenticeship/trade school program or applicable certification, required. An additional 2 years of experience may be considered in lieu of this requirement.

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in construction and/or maintenance related activities such as Electrical, Electronics, HVAC, Plumbing, Boiler operations, Cabling, Refrigeration, mechanical systems, etc.

  • Minimum 2 years' progressive experience supervising teams or acting in a Lead capacity, preferred.

  • Experience in a healthcare setting, preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Effective communication and relationship management skills serving a diverse population.

  • Capable of working effectively with different departmental personnel in carrying out the Engineering duties and responsibilities.

  • Developing and maintaining strong client relations and shop cohesion.

  • Performance oriented with a focus on Safety and Quality Assurance for the team.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a Team setting.

UNIQUE PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS, ENVIRONMENT AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

Must possess ability to work independently, with a minimum of direction, and take initiative in problem solving Possibility of extensive bending, lifting, and walking. Possibility for handling hazardous substances used in the course of the work. Regular and punctual attendance is a condition of employment.

  • Essential Responsibilities and Competencies:

  • Develop and maintain an efficient and effective Operations team.

  • Lead and empower continuous shop development.

  • Manage staff schedules and coverage.

  • Small scale project management and capital project support for construction, renovation, and improvement projects.

  • Engage in the hiring process, performance management and corrective action activities.

  • Supervise employees in day-to-day operations, ensuring alignment with VMC's mission, values, and strategic goals. Assist Director with responsibility for maintenance operations.

  • Inform staff on a regular basis regarding changes in code standards, procedures, and other issues that affect their working environment.

  • Coordinate shop activities for timely response and prioritization of tasks based on operation needs and deadlines.

  • Assist Department Director with the execution of operational activities on VMC owned and leased properties.

  • Maintain accurate records of repairs and maintenance, including work orders, inspections, and safety protocols.

  • Support the Department with compliance and improvement activities.

  • Support Construction and other Ancillary Departments to build and maintain a safe environment.

  • Support the organization's mission, goals, and pillars.

  • Conduct Quality Assurance activities to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (TJC, DOH, DOE, OSHA, L&I), policies and procedures.

  • Complete multiple tasks, prioritize and meet deadlines.

  • Collaborate with Facilities leadership in support of improving and maintaining a safe environment providing patient care.

  • Maintain compliance standards for patient safety and hospital accreditation.

  • Other duties as assigned.
