Position Information
TxDOT's Houston District is looking for engineering technicians to serve as a Design Project Coordinator based in Houston, TX. This position will work with the Director of Design and the District Design Support Engineer by assisting with project coordination and review processing on a variety of transportation projects throughout the Houston District's 6-county area. You will have the opportunity to provide input and support to various other TxDOT sections by facilitating design reviews, contract time reviews, value engineering studies, and assisting with general design staff support. Position Description
Design Project Coordinator I
Provides highly skilled technical expertise and oversees multiple design and building construction projects. Reports to a licensed professional engineer or registered architect who has final approval authority for projects. Work requires contact with governmental agencies, consultants and construction firms. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.
Design Project Coordinator II
Provides highly skilled technical expertise and oversees multiple design and complex building construction projects. Reports to a licensed professional engineer or registered architect who has final approval authority for projects. Work requires contact with governmental agencies, consultants and construction firms. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.
Essential Duties:
Design Project Coordinator I
Assists in the review and oversight of plan packages submitted by consultants.
Coordinates design work among TxDOT entities, consultants and contractors.
May assist in planning and coordinating office operations.
May schedule, coordinate and prepare documents for public hearings.
Receives project assignments, determines work requirements to complete project plans and coordinates scheduling to accommodate projects already underway.
Reviews and compiles complete plan packages for submission to the responsible engineer or architect for review and signature.
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Includes all essential duties listed for Design Project Coordinator I as well as:
Reviews and oversees plan packages submitted by consultants.
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Design Project Coordinator I
Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.
Experience: 7 years design, plan preparation, construction inspection, surveying. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
Design Project Coordinator II
Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.
Experience: 8 years design, plan preparation, construction inspection, surveying. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
