Use manual, semi-automatic, flame-cutting equipment to weld or join metal components or to fill holes, indentations, or seams of fabricated metal products. Perform mechanized welding, cutting, and gouging processes as required by the work activity. 4 - 10 hour shifts Monday-Thursday Friday is 100% optional and is paid overtime Operate safety equipment and adhere to safe work practices. Weld components in 2G, 3G, 4G, and 6G positions using at least six different processes. Interpret NAVSEA-approved Weld Procedure Specifications (WPS). Use fillet weld gauges, V-WAC gauges, and bridge cam gauges for initial quality checks as welds are completed, following NAVSEA fabrication documents. Set up or program power supplies and identify the correct support gear needed for any welding process required to complete work activities. Proficiently perform oxy/fuel cutting, plasma cutting, and CAC-A (carbon arc air) cutting, gouging, and scarfing of welds and beveling plates. Clamp, hold, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind, and/or bolt component parts to achieve required configurations and positions for welding. Detect and troubleshoot faulty equipment operation or defective materials, make necessary repairs, and notify management if replacement equipment is needed. Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to join weldments using processes such as GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, GMAW-P, GMAW-S, SMAW, SAW, and mechanized processes, and consistently set up stud welding guns using any combination of at least six processes. Monitor the fitting, burning, and welding processes to prevent overheating, warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of materials. Examine workpieces for defects and measure them with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with NAVSEA specifications. Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as angle grinders, die grinders, and needle scalers. Work collaboratively with employees, assign daily tasks, and coordinate directly with a general foreman or production manager to maintain project schedules. Follow WPS to ensure the proper use of mil-cert filler wire and base metals in accordance with work activities to meet NAVSEA specifications. Ensure compliance with level one material control requirements as per the applicable QSPM document. Perform tasks outside of the welding trade when required. Work according to a Statement of Work (SOW) and Quality Assurance (QA) work package while expertly reading applicable drawings and VWI 3D models as necessary. Skills and Requirements Work Experience: 2-5 years related welding experience, or accredited Apprenticeship Program graduate or Journeyman Certificate accepted in lieu of work experience Capability to be certified to the company's Level 1 VT NDT procedures. Prior experience and qualifications in accordance with applicable NAVSEA documents. Extensive knowledge of welding principles, processes, and techniques, including correct weld joint identification per MIL-22D or AWS D1.1, and the ability to identify and correct weld defects before an NDT inspector arrives, ensuring consistent first-time quality. Proficiency in interpreting weld symbols and identifying necessary weld sizes and joint configurations. Ability to maintain dimensions and tolerances according to specifications. Skill in welding dissimilar metals. Competence in welding parts and structures of varying sizes, shapes, and thicknesses. Must be able to obtain and maintain access to assigned military/government installations as required for work activities.
