Department of Public Works - Mechanic Job Description: We are seeking askilled and experienced individual to join our team as a SkilledEquipment Mechanic & Operator. This role involves performing advancedmaintenance and repair tasks on motorized equipment as well as operatingheavy machinery essential to municipal operations. Hours are Mondaythrough Thursday, 6:30am-3:30pm and Friday 6:30am-12:30pm. KeyResponsibilities: -Diagnose and repair gasoline and diesel-poweredvehicles and equipment, including inspections and troubleshooting.-Perform engine tune-ups, brake and clutch adjustments, and electricalsystem repairs. -Replace or adjust carburetors and conduct front-endalignments. -Remove and replace clutches, transmissions, and faultyengine components. -Disassemble, overhaul, and rebuild gasoline anddiesel engines. -Conduct valve grinding, engine overhauls, and relatedmaintenance tasks. -Perform auto bodywork, welding, and metal repairs.-Execute preventative maintenance, including lubrication, oil filterreplacement, and related tasks. -Supervise and provide guidance to asmall team of less experienced workers. Equipment Operation: -Operateheavy machinery, including trucks (rated over 9 tons), tractors,semi-trailers, and truck-trailer combinations. -Use specializedequipment such as rollers, rotary snow plows, mobile highway graders,bituminous spreaders, and tar distributors. -Handle hoisting equipment,including backhoes, cranes, power shovels, trench diggers, pile drivers,front-end loaders, street sweepers, and catch basin machines. AdditionalDuties: -Load and unload trucks, haul materials, and assist with plowingand sanding highways during inclement weather. Qualifications:-Proficiency in repairing and maintaining gasoline and diesel-poweredengines. -Ability to operate a wide range of heavy equipment andmachinery. -Possession of a Class I License from the Registry of MotorVehicles and a Class 4 license as defined by the MassachusettsDepartment of Public Safety. \*Strong organizational skills and theability to manage a team effectively. -Commitment to workplace safetyand compliance with all regulations.
