We are seeking an experienced Transportation Construction Manager to support our Construction Inspection and Management services on CDOT and local agency transportation projects across Colorado.
To be considered for this position, applicants must have, at minimum, 6 years of experience in Construction Management/Construction Engineering for heavy civil and transportation construction.
This role serves as the owner's representative, overseeing the construction of roadways, highways, and bridges to ensure compliance with project plans, specifications, and applicable standards. Key responsibilities include managing daily contractor operations, verifying quantities for payment, maintaining accurate field documentation, and coordinating materials testing. The Construction Manager also supports project scheduling, constructability reviews, and contract compliance throughout the project lifecycle.
What you'll be doing:
Serve as the owner's representative for CDOT or local agency construction projects, managing day-to-day construction operations for roads, highways, bridges, and related infrastructure
Conduct and document inspections, materials testing, and quality control measures; track and verify quantities for payment
Recommend approval or rejection of contractor work based on compliance, performance, and quality standards
Maintain detailed daily construction diaries, reports, and documentation using systems such as PMWeb, SiteManager, and AASHTOWare
Analyze and monitor construction schedules using MS Project, Primavera, or equivalent; compare contractor progress to baseline schedules and justify added time as needed.
Draft and support change orders, contract modifications, and construction documentation in compliance with CDOT and FHWA regulations
Track project budgets and expenditures; raise concerns proactively to the CDOT Project Engineer
Assist with as-constructed plans, final closeout documentation, and interdisciplinary approvals
Communicate clearly and promptly with owners, contractors, and stakeholders on project progress, issues, and recommendations
What you need to have:
High school diploma or equivalent required
6 + years of experience in Construction Management/Construction Engineering for heavy civil and transportation construction. CDOT experience preferred
CDOT Basic Highway Math, Basic Highway Plan Reading, and Basic Construction Survey Certifications required OR Professional Engineer License
Must be willing and able to travel to job sites, sometimes for extended periods. Job sites may be located throughout Colorado or in western U.S.
Willingness to work extended hours, nights, and weekends if necessary to comply with client requirements and/or to meet project deadlines
Must have a valid driver's license
Overnight travel may be required with this position
Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening to ensure a safe and productive work environment. Volkert adheres to federal guidelines, which may include testing for substances such as marijuana. Please note that federal regulations may differ from state-specific guidelines
Valid driver's license
A satisfactory motor vehicle report (MVR)
