Maintenance Technician - Painter Hendrix College is seeking a full-time, 12-month department member to serve as Maintenance Technician - Painter. Reporting to the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor, this position performs general maintenance work in addition to all aspects of painting, sheetrock repairs and other duties associated with both internal and external painting. Under the supervision of officials responsible for the coordination and accomplishment of plant maintenance and operation work, perform the duties peculiar to, and normally required in, the trade of painter following recognized procedures and techniques for such work. JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Applies coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel, or lacquer to decorate and protect interior or exterior surfaces, trimmings, and fixtures of buildings and other structures.
- Smooths surfaces using sandpaper, brushes, or steel wool, and removes old paint from surfaces using paint-remover, scraper, wire brush, or blowtorch to prepare surfaces for painting. Fills nail holes, cracks and joints with putty, plaster, or other filler.
- Selects paints and thinning and drying substances to prepare paint that matches specified colors.
- Paints surfaces using brushes, spray gun, or paint rollers. Simulated wood grain, marble, brick, or tile effects. Applies paint with cloth, brush, sponge, or fingers to create special effects where instructed.
- Erects scaffolding or sets up ladders to perform tasks above ground level.
- Perform minor carpentry repairs, including interior plaster, wallboard, stair treads, baseshoe, and floor tile and ceiling tile.
- Perform duties in a neat manner that leaves no messes from drips, overspray, etc.
- Assists in assessing painting needs through regular building surveys and inspections.
- Performs non-trade duties such as periodic maintenance, boiler checks, door lock repair, glass or window repair, re-screening or patching of roof systems or horizontal paving surfaces, and support of various campus functions and activities.
- Perform preventive maintenance work on a wide variety of equipment in assigned buildings.
- Perform daily mechanical inspection rounds in assigned buildings and log critical information.
- Performs specialized tasks during adverse weather conditions and college closures. In the event of unscheduled closures due to weather events and/or other circumstances, serves as essential personnel for reopening the college.
- Must complete all required training as scheduled.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Must have experience in applying all types of primers, lacquers, paints, varnish, etc.
- Ability to read, write, and follow oral and written instructions.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Walking, stooping and climbing for long periods of time.
- Lifting of objects over 50 pounds.
- Ability to withstand extreme hot/cold weather.
- Ability to work safely with hazardous materials.
- Ability to work overtime/weekends.
- Ability to properly/safely use all PPE applicable to duties.
- Must be dependable, punctual and have a good attendance record.
- Ability to manage time well.
- Must have/maintain a current AR drivers license.
