Job Description

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer or Designer to support an extensive MEP backlog of work. This position involves starting new projects and assisting with existing ones for various sectors, including VA, OGS, correctional facilities, UB expansions, and state parks.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the design and layout of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems using Revit.
• Perform load calculations, equipment selection, and duct/piping sizing, with training available.
• Prepare construction documents, specifications, and technical reports.
• Assist mechanical engineers with energy modeling and life cycle cost analysis for mechanical systems.
• Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, and other disciplines to ensure integrated project delivery.
• Perform field site visits during the design phase to document existing conditions throughout upstate New York, with mileage reimbursement provided.
• Provide construction administration support, including submittal reviews, RFI responses, periodic site visits for compliance, and punch listing.

Essential Skills

• Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in mechanical engineering or design, including plumbing experience.
• Ability to work semi-independently with minimal guidance.
• Familiarity with mechanical design, specification writing, building codes, fire protection, plumbing design, drafting, and HVAC.
• Knowledge of the NYS Building Codes and industry-standard design recommendations.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience designing mechanical systems from the pre-schematic phase, including energy modeling analysis, energy code compliance calculations, opinions of probable costs, and life cycle cost analysis.
• Experience in K-12 or Federal work environments.

Work Environment

This role requires occasional travel, with mileage reimbursed at the GSA rate. The work environment is collaborative and independent, promoting a strong company culture. The position starts in the office, with potential overtime. Employees are expected to work semi-independently, though support is available from two direct reports with over eight years of experience.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $45.00/hr.
