Pipefitter

You will serve as a PIPEFITTER in the PIPE SHOP, PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION:

*Locates and repairs leaks in shipboard piping systems and tests and flushes ships systems
*Performs cutting and grinding operations onboard ship and in shop using various pneumatic or electric power tools and machines
*Works from blueprints and sketches, processes instructions and other technical directions to properly install various piping systems and ship alterations.
*Maintains cleanliness requirements for various shipboard systems and ensures such requirements are met throughout the fabrication and installation process.
*Tests various ship piping systems and shop piping fabrications under pressure, to determine conformance to standards or to locate leaks.
