JOB DESCRIPTION

Independently determines project scope, develops a preliminary plan of investigation, and determines project specifications such as cost, time, and sample requirements by analyzing client input, available supplemental data, and product construction.

Projects may include frequent travel to conduct or witness tests at client sites.

Initiates communication with clients to promote and explain the benefits of new and existing services.

Follows up on contacts from clients.

Communicates with clients to discuss technical issues, explain UL procedures and requirements, convey project cost, and negotiate completion date and sample requirements.

Acts to address client concerns and to resolve client issues.

Provides technical assistance to clients in reference to product inspection and follow-up services.

Establishes appropriate test programs by reviewing files and manufacturer's information, examining samples, and applying UL requirements.

Notifies client of any areas in which the product is not in compliance with UL requirements or of any changes in project scope or specifications.

Coordinates laboratory activities by preparing data sheets and instructions to technicians, scheduling and reviewing work of Laboratory Technicians and support staff and establishing completion dates.

Coordinates administrative aspects of project management.

Serves as Project Handler of record and may sign as Reviewer of record as assigned.

Communicates project status and results to clients through frequent contact and by preparing reports.

Prepares Follow-Up Service Procedures and information pages.

Integrates continuous improvement concepts and techniques into all aspects of the job.

Resolves engineering issues associated with Variation Notices by analyzing and reporting on the acceptability of the variations.

Proposes development of new and/or revised UL requirements.

Develops special test methods and test equipment.

Coordinates and/or performs File Reviews.

May represent UL at industry related functions such as seminars and trade shows.

May provide direction as a Primary Designated Engineer or Designated Engineer for specific product categories.

May directs and review work of assigned staff.

May train office, field, and/or laboratory staff and entry-level engineers.

Provides technical assistance to laboratory and/or field staff.

Read and follow the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct and follow all physical and digital security practices.

Performs other duties as directed.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Collaborate with Technical Training Leadership to develop and implement yearly training calendars and plans focused on technical and science-based programs.

Evaluate training effectiveness and suggest program adjustments based on the objectives and the evaluation of technically focused curriculum. Share best practices with other team members. Provide advice and apply diverse approach to help participants learn effectively.

With minimal guidance, lead local/regional/global training projects. Proactively communicate to key stakeholders. Understand key control points of multi-level technical standards and product aligned projects and manage risks to keep projects on track. Be sensitive to situational changes and proactively adapt.

Create technical training items from single courses to full curricula in the Learning Management System and assign to individuals or groups as requested. Align and drive to technical competency identification.

Partner with sales and marketing to identify the technical training and education needs of the business units and customers.

Responsible for the creation of technical education materials in various mediums as well as support of customer engagements including Instructor Led Program, e learning, and various digital delivery products.

Ensure the effectiveness of the Learning Management System based on the business and customer needs of product and standard based learning.

Build and Maintain relationships with various associations including government entities.

Read and follow the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct and follow all physical and digital security practices.

QUALIFICATIONS

University Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, Manufacturing Technology, or Physics from an accredited program plus four years directly related work experience

Ability to identify and manage priorities as demonstrated by the ability to establish, track and meet schedules for multiple projects while maintaining high quality and exceptional service to colleagues.

Strong proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Experience with Learning Management Systems and digital tools preferred.

Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to work independently.

Working knowledge of the technical vocabulary common to Industrial Machinery/Industrial Control Panels.

Demonstrate the ability to apply training concepts for use in areas of expertise, including application to complex, new, or unusual products.

Working knowledge of industry issues, needs, and problems.

Working knowledge of conformity standards in use in area of expertise.

Total Rewards: We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. The estimated salary range for this position is $91,900-122,500 and is based on multiple factors, including job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, as well as other factors. This position is eligible for annual bonus compensation with a target payout of 10% of the base salary. This position also provides health benefits such as medical, dental and vision; wellness benefits such as mental and financial health; and retirement savings (401K) commensurate with the standard rewards offered in each individual location or country. We also provide full-time employees with paid time off including vacation (15 days), holiday including floating holidays (12 days) and sick time off (72 hours).
