Electrician

This position is responsible for performing skilled work in applying the techniques of the trade in the planning, installation, maintenance and repair of electrical wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus and control equipment according to established specifications and codes. An incumbent in this class must determine the causes of malfunctions in electrical systems and possess the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to perform any or all skilled tasks of the trade. General instructions are received regarding what tasks are to be performed. Considerable leeway in judgment is permitted for planning the details of each task. Direct supervision may be exercised over the work of subordinates. Does related work as required. Satisfactory completion of an Apprenticeship Program in the electrical trade and four (4) years of full-time commercial, industrial or institutional experience at the Journeyman level. APPLICATIONS: NOTE: Training obtained by completion of Technical Courses in the Electrical Trade at an Accredited College or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees, or at a Technical or Vocational Institute, or in the Armed Services, may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis, up to two (2) years.
