Job Summary: General Summary:
The General Laborer position is an entry-level role located in the Planer area, intended to provide training and development for employees aspiring to become valuable long-term team members. Under the supervision of the Planer Supervisor or their designee, this role supports production operations and general facility upkeep.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist with maintenance projects and daily operations.
Perform tasks related to the infeed and tray system.
Support facility clean-up efforts and secure rail cars as needed.
Learn and support various roles within the facility.
Follow all company safety policies, work rules, and procedures, including lockout/tagout and hot work processes.
Collaborate effectively with the production team and department leadership.
Participate in required weekend and overtime work based on operational needs.
Essential Duties:
Identify lumber defects during band and sticker removal to prevent equipment issues.
Safely remove staples, bands, stickers, and debris; monitor for rocks or other hazards.
Observe sticker racks and coordinate with forklift drivers as necessary.
Maintain a clean work area and infeed zone.
Train to operate the Breakdown Hoist and feed the Planer.
Consistently check lumber for correct sizing.
Learn and perform daily, monthly, and annual maintenance tasks.
Notify supervisors of issues or safety concerns promptly.
Demonstrate initiative, a strong work ethic, and a team-oriented attitude.
Perform other duties as qualified and assigned.
Qualifications:
Experience Required: None
Training Required: On-the-job training provided
Licenses/Certifications: Not required
Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
Commitment to safety and following procedures
Willingness to learn and grow within the company
Reliability and flexibility, including availability for weekends and overtime
Ability to work effectively as part of a team
