Job Title: Pre-Construction Project Estimator

Location: Remote - Or around offices in Chicago, Houston, Dallas, Phoenix

Start Date: May 22nd

Key Responsibilities:

Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for utility-scale solar PV, wind, and energy storage projects during the pre-construction phase.

Analyze project drawings, specifications, and other documents to develop a complete understanding of project scope and required materials, labor, and equipment.

Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes; assess proposals for scope, completeness, and cost competitiveness.

Develop budgets and conceptual estimates at various stages of project development (feasibility, preliminary, definitive).

Collaborate with internal teams (engineering, procurement, development) to incorporate design and procurement strategies into cost models.

Identify and evaluate potential project risks and suggest cost-effective mitigation strategies.

Maintain and update historical cost databases and unit pricing information.

Assist with value engineering exercises to optimize project cost and performance.

Prepare professional and comprehensive estimate reports for internal leadership and external clients.

Support the business development team in RFP responses and bid proposals.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

3-7 years of estimating experience, preferably in utility-scale renewable energy, electrical construction, or heavy civil infrastructure.

Strong understanding of construction means, methods, and sequencing, especially in solar, wind, and storage projects.

Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., HeavyBid, InEight, RSMeans) and MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Experience interpreting civil, structural, and electrical engineering plans and specifications.

Strong analytical and mathematical skills; attention to detail is critical.

Excellent communication, negotiation, and organizational skills.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Knowledge of EPC contracting models and project delivery methods is a plus.

Preferred Skills:

Familiarity with permitting, environmental, and interconnection processes for renewable projects.

Understanding of current market trends in renewable energy technologies and construction practices.

Estimating experience with battery energy storage systems (BESS) is highly desirable.
