Duties: Assist electricians in repairing, maintaining, and installing electrical systems and equipment.

Carry, organize, and set up tools, materials, and equipment at job sites.

Help install wiring, fixtures, switches, outlets, and electrical panels under supervision.

Support in measuring, cutting, bending, and threading electrical conduit.

Aid in identifying malfunctioning components and replacing fuses, bulbs, and basic parts.

Perform basic testing using meters (under direction) and report readings to electrician.

Clean and prepare work areas; ensure compliance with safety procedures.

Fetch materials, prepare work surfaces, and keep worksite organized.

Observe and learn proper use of tools, materials, and codes relevant to electrical work.

Regularly assist in tasks involving 120V to 480V systems and must follow all safety protocols.

May also assist with work involving high-voltage systems up to 13,200 volts, under close supervision and strict safety guidelines.

Working knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the trade or trades to which assigned.

Ability to read plans, specifications, manuals, and blueprints.

Ability to use the tools, machines, equipment, and materials of the trade or trades to which assigned.

Ability to understand and carry out written and verbal instructions.

Qualifications: Two years of full-time experience in maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson; OR completion of an appropriate two-year technical school course at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services, such as the New York State Civil Service Employees Association-Partnership (NYS CSEA-P) Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program*; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of appropriate technical courses at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.

*Successful completion of the NYS CSEA-P Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program

includes a total of 288 hours of trade-specific classroom instruction, 45 hours of technical math course work, 45 hours of technical communications course work, and 15 hours of blueprint/schematic reading course work. It does not include 4,000 hours of on-the-job training, as required for the NYS CSEA-P Applied Skilled Trades Traineeship.
