Position Summary:
Performs skilled work in the maintenance of streets, stormwater and rights-of-way maintenance. Employees may be assigned to one or several functions within the classification depending upon the needs of the department. Under general supervision, the incumbent must exercise reasonable initiatives and independent judgement in ensuring that timely, efficient, and effective services are provided to departments, selecting work methods, and performing assigned tasks. Work is reviewed through oral and written reports, discussion, and results obtained.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Performs skilled work for jobs related to maintenance and repair of streets, stormwater and rights-of-way.
Performs skilled work in canals, streets, ditches and ponds using advanced level maintenance equipment.
Gives routine first level maintenance to ensure equipment, material and jobsite are safe orderly and are in proper working order.
Operates small to heavy equipment in compliance with the City's operating safety policies and procedures including operation of industrial mowers, excavation equipment, dump trucks, jet cleaners, street sweeper and small equipment such as chainsaws, blowers, weed eaters, shovels, rakes to name a few.
Supervises and assists team in construction and maintenance activities including, but not limited to road patching, sidewalk repairs, ditch maintenance, stormwater system maintenance, rights-of-way maintenance and repair.
Plans and directs the obtaining of tools and materials needed for work, directs the setting up of barricades and other warning devices to channel traffic around construction areas or other hazards.
Will be required for stand by and or after hour duties.
Prepares daily activity sheets, reports and other documentation as required.
Work safely around utilities, traffic, public, crews being fully aware of surroundings to minimize risk and hazards, reporting any hazards, accidents, or injuries immediately to supervisor.
Participate in meetings with crew and supervisor to discuss daily activities goals and maintain clear and open communication throughout to project.
Performs other job duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of principles, practices, methods, materials and tools of several trades.
Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trades.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to prepare and maintain records on activities.
Ability to apply all applicable safety measures.
Ability to lead a small crew and direct activities.
Skill in the operation and maintenance of tools, machinery and equipment of the trades.
Ability to perform manual work under adverse weather conditions for extended periods.
Ability to work in/or around traffic, working around underground utilities: electric, gas, phone/fiber optics, cable TV, water, sewer lines, etc.
Work well with others in a team environment.
Education and Experience:
High school graduation or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
A combination of education, training, and experience may be substituted at the City Manager's discretion.
Certificates and Licenses:
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Class A CDL driver's license if selected in Storm Construction or a valid Florida Class B CDL in Street Construction or as required for specific Operator III position assignments and must be insurable by the City's current insurance.
Current Florida Department of Transportation Approved Temporary Traffic Control (TTC) Intermediate Certification within 6 months of employment.
Florida Stormwater Association Stormwater Operator - Level I within 6 months of employment.
