The Assistant Field Engineer is responsible for assisting in performing engineering duties including coordination, layout, quality control and monitoring utilized in the in planning, and construction of our projects.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES + RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform responsibilities with excellence in service, integrity and building relationships as exemplified in DAVIS core values
Assist with the process of installing all survey control work for project
Performs basic survey functions using measuring tape, plumb bob, chalk lines, carpenters level, square, survey prisms, tribrach, tripods, pole and builders level
Perform basic functions using data collector in conjunction with manual and robotic total stations
Basic ability to interpret plans for layout of locations and quality control in field
Assist with the creation of Layout Control Sheets for projects
Performs plane geometry and trigonometry to determine coordinate locations for layout
Monitor that subcontractor's performance is in accordance with contract requirements and industry accepted standards
Maintain clean and organized equipment and office files; assists with maintenance of project documents including posting drawings with design changes and documentation of as-built field conditions.
Assist with recordkeeping in the form of field notes, sketches, reports and daily logs
Assist with interpretation of drawings and specifications including review of shop drawings and submittals for consistency with contract documents
Understand and review field computations
Perform quality control inspections
Prepare work areas at job site for field engineering activities
Maintain inventory of survey supplies needed for project
Knowledgeable of DAVIS engineering best practices
Perform equipment internal calibrations and maintain outside calibration schedule
Perform other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE + SPECIAL SKILLS
*Required
Minimum two (2) years' construction engineering experience
Associate or Bachelors degree in Engineering, Surveying, or a related field preferred
Proficient at reading and understanding contract drawing, including but not limited to both structural and architectural drawings, with the ability to cross check between the two documents as needed*
Decision making, research and analytical problem solving skills*
Time management with the ability to organize, assess and prioritize multiple tasks, projects, and demands, and to work independently*
Possess strong verbal and written communication skills, and interact effectively at all levels within the organization*
MS Office - Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook experience*
Experience with software applications (i.e.: CAD, Modeling, Point Creation Tools, Data Collection Software, etc.)
Experience working with total stations
PHYSICAL JOB DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is responsible to maintain fitness-for-duty while holding the above-described position and should be able to perform the essential tasks of the position in a safe, appropriate, and effective manner. This refers to the physical, mental and emotional duties of the job. Reaching above and below, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and bending. The employee must occasionally lift/carry/move up to 75 pounds. Manual dexterity to operate office equipment, file, and perform specialized skills. Needs a high degree of concentration in a busy office environment.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This position may require some travel for conferences, educational sessions, and other company events.
The noise level in the office work environment is usually moderate.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to higher noise levels and hazardous working conditions when working at job sites. Safety precautions must be taken, and resources will be provided.

The base salary (or hourly) range for this position is
$70,000.00 - $85,000.00
