In search of an experienced Grounds Supervisor for our newest property, Blackberry Mountain. Set amongst 5,200 acres in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee, the Mountain combines the legendary hospitality and luxury of Blackberry Farm with expansive opportunities for adventure, exploration and connection — all in pursuit of a well-lived life.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  • Maintain property to the desired standards expressed by the company goals
  • Oversee maintenance and construction of landscape areas, hardscapes, and turf areas.
  • Maintain all plant material using professional horticulture practices
  • Frequently inspect irrigation systems for damage or leaks and schedule repairs as needed
  • Coordinate pre- and post-emergent herbicide applications for weed control in landscape beds and turf areas.
  • Coordinate cleaning of fireplaces and distribution of firewood as well as ordering firewood from vendors
  • Supervise grounds team and inspect work frequently to insure each home is up to contractual standards
  • Foster a good relationship with Hotel Grounds and Maintenance teams
  • Ensure all scheduled scope of work tasks are done in a timely fashion
  • Ability to organize and multitask
  • Knowledge of common landscape practices
  • Responsible for engine and equipment maintenance and schedule for repair
  • Responsible for contacting and coordinating with suppliers and vendors for deliveries, rentals, and repairs.

Must comply with all company policies and procedures.

To perform the essential functions of this position regular and consistent attendance in required.

Must be able to work well with other Team Members, Managers and interact with our guests.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ability to effectively train and supervise Grounds Team Members in safety, departmental procedures, horticulture practices, grounds maintenance duties, and equipment operation
  • Works closely with Grounds manager to hire and develop team including conducting interviews, coaching team members, and conducting performance evaluations.
  • Role model to team
  • Fill out written warnings, and incident reports

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • 2 year degree or 3 years commercial landscape experience
  • Knowledge of OSHA and safety equipment standards

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to communicate clearly with management and employees to accomplish operational goals
  • Ability and confidence to interact with Blackberry Mountain guests and Owners

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  • General Mathematics
  • Ability to properly calculate pesticide and fertilizer application rates
  • Ability to properly calculate sod and mulch application
  • Ability to understand and manage budget parameters

REASONING ABILITY

  • Ability to see the big picture while focusing on the details required to preserve Blackberry Mountain's five star appearance
  • Ability to adapt and overcome during stressful situations

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Ability to lift 60 lbs.
  • Ability to walk several miles of mountainous hiking trails
  • Ability to operate standard Landscaping equipment (weed trimmers, mowers, chainsaws, etc.)

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Flexible and consistent schedule
  • Outside work environment consisting of all weather conditions and various temperatures
