Overview \nThompson Engineering is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer with specialized bridge design experience to join our Structural Engineering Team. This position offers an excellent opportunity for a seasoned professional with a strong background in designing bridges for federal, state, and local government projects. \nThe primary responsibility of this role is to ensure the safety, strength, and integrity of the structures we design. The ideal candidate will be well-versed in AASHTO codes and state transportation design standards, with the ability to lead independent evaluations and adapt technical procedures accordingly. \n\nKey Responsibilities \n\n\nPerform structural analysis modeling and design, primarily for state and local highway bridges. \n \n\nDesign other structural systems including: \n\n\nCommercial buildings \n \n\nIndustrial structures (e.g., pipe racks, access platforms) \n \n\nHeavy civil foundations, retaining walls, bulkheads, piers, and wharfs \n \n \n \n\nInterpret and apply state bridge bureau guidelines and specifications. \n \n\nUse OpenBridge (LEAP) software for bridge element analysis. \n \n\nSelect appropriate construction materials to ensure structural durability. \n \n\nPrepare technical design reports and client-facing documentation. \n \n\nManage time efficiently across multiple concurrent projects. \n \n\nEnsure quality deliverables and collaborate with contractors and project managers. \n \n \n\nQualifications \n\n\nEducation: \n\n\nBachelor's degree in Civil\/Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited university required. \n \n \n \n\nExperience: \n\n\nMinimum 10 years of bridge design engineering experience. \n \n \n \n\nLicensure: \n\n\nProfessional Engineer (PE) license required. \n \n \n \n\nTechnical Skills: \n\n\nProficiency in: \n\n\nStructural FEA analysis \n \n\nOpenBridge (LEAP) \n \n\nMicroStation \n \n\nMicrosoft Office (Word, Excel) \n \n \n \n \n \n\nCertifications: \n\n\nNot required. \n \n \n \n\nPhysical Requirements: \n\n\nAbility to work flexible schedules and overtime as needed. \n \n\nMust be able to sit for extended periods and operate a computer effectively. \n \nTravel required to support projects (as needed). \n \n \n \n\nAbout Thompson Engineering \nFounded in 1953, Thompson Engineering began as a firm providing quality assurance services for industrial and infrastructure development across the Gulf Coast.
