The University of New Mexico is seeking a dedicated Master Plumber to join our Facilities Management team. In this vital role, youll lead maintenance and repair efforts across campus, ensuring the reliability and safety of critical plumbing systems that support our students, faculty, and staff every day.
Key Responsibilities:
As the Master Plumber, you will: Maintain and repair general plumbing components including toilets, urinals, faucets, hose bibs, and drains. Install, repair, or replace domestic hot and cold-water lines. Repair and replace steam to hot water exchangers for major building heating systems and pools. Repair and replace pneumatic steam valves, radiator valves, traps, and steam and condensate pipes. Repair and replace domestic hot water heat pumps, chilled water pumps, sump pumps, and sewage pumps. Install, test, and repair all sizes of backflow prevention devices. Lead troubleshooting efforts and repairs on steam, water, and gas distribution systems. Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies, promoting continuous improvement in workplace safety and environmental practices. Provide sketches and dimensions used by drafters to create plans for subcontractor work. Research catalogs and vendor services for complex and customized system retrofits. Interpret and apply mechanical and structural blueprints to plan plumbing repairs and modifications. Coordinate with management to assign and track corrective and preventive maintenance tasks given to subordinate plumbers. Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Please Note: This position requires you to work in the Health Sciences Center (HSC) area of UNM. This means you will be working in medical laboratory research, medical clinical, and medical academic spaces. These HSC environments may require the donning of medically approved personal protective equipment (PPE).

High school diploma or GED; at least 6 years of trades experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Possession of a current New Mexico Journeyman Plumber/Gas Fitter (JPG) License.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications- Backflow Prevention Certification
- Knowledge of steam, water, and natural gas distribution systems maintenance and repair
- Experience leading others in troubleshooting and emergency repairs
- Experience developing and implementing planned maintenance programs
- TMA (CMMS) experience
- I-Pad / Tablet (Paperless Work Order) experience
