The Collins Aerospace Mission Systems (MiS) Test Engineering organization is looking for a motivated individual to be a Principal Project Engineer leading multidisciplinary teams of engineers (including systems, mechanical, electrical, and software disciplines) developing complex engineering solutions. The MiS Test Engineering organization is central part of the Mission Systems Services Organization, and is responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of the manufacturing test solutions. As a key member of the MiS Test Engineering team, the Principal Project Engineer ensures the successful execution of test solution projects from inception, through deployment to customers, as well as long-term support.
Typical projects incorporate sophisticated test equipment such as oscilloscopes, DMM's, power supplies and other digital related equipment. These automated test racks will incorporate custom software written by the development team and will be integrated into the Collins test data management system. In addition, this position will be responsible for performing data analysis and working within a multi-disciplinary team to deliver bids and proposals for government and other external organizations.
What You Will Do
- You will read and interpret contracts and statements of work to determine project scope or team/capability gaps
- You will submit extensive technical data gathering and document creation to customers
- You will work breakdown structure (WBS) development to generate proposals and project management bids for medium to high complexity development projects
- You will work with the program and/or technical project managers to develop the program execution plan and primary execution responsibilities to ensure projects remain within budget, on schedule and meet requirements
- You will lead a multi-disciplined engineering team in all technical elements of an entire project
- You will apply integrated project management, earned value, and risk management techniques
- You will coordinate inputs from varioushardware / softwareengineers and supporting teams
- You will lead test equipment design reviews and ensure the generation of appropriate design documentation
- You will serve as the Cost Account Manager (CAM) for multiple projects. Track, report, and analyze earned value metrics as required to understand program performance and to recommend staffing and/or schedule adjustment based on these metrics
- You will understand therelationship of his/her projects to other development projects, defining a strategic plan to leverage the investments across the business unit
- You will contribute to the Project Engineer Community of Practice
- You will mentor junior functional engineers
- You will perform as an authority figure for all matters related to production and service test equipment, and leverage those principals to other areas of test
Qualifications You Must Have
- Project leadership of multidiscipline engineering teams and managing customer relationships.
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience.
- The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued Secret security clearance after start is required.
- U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Qualifications We Prefer
- Background in Earned Value management and Risk and Opportunity management
- Experience with developing or maintaining automated test equipment.
- Sound technical knowledge in at least one of the following engineering disciplines: systems, mechanical, electrical, or software
- Ability to establish and maintaining effective customer relationships
- Outstanding oral, written, and formal presentation communication skills

The salary range for this role is 101,000 USD - 203,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
