Purpose Statement

The job of Low Voltage Technician is done for the purpose/s of providing technical maintenance and repairs to low voltage systems with specific responsibility for identifying repair and/or replacement needs; installing, repairing, and/or upgrading low voltage systems; ensuring compliance with building codes, health and safety codes; ensuring completion of projects in accordance with trade standards; providing information on the proper uses of equipment; assisting other skilled trades; and ensuring that tools and materials are available at job site.

Essential Functions

  • Completes repairs or replacement of components including hardware, wiring, software for low voltage systems that may include, access control, security systems and cameras, duress systems, telephones, intercom & clock components, fire alarm systems, sound & audio systems and classroom projectors throughout the District.
  • Conducts necessary tests of equipment, including sensors, field cabinets, or control consoles, to determine malfunctions or causes of breakdown; removes and replaces faulty parts, sub-assemblies and major components; re-tests equipment with repaired components; makes required adjustments, programming and corrections.
  • Coordinates with assigned lead and/or supervisor and other trades for the purpose of completing projects and work orders efficiently.
  • Estimates materials and/or equipment needed to complete work projects for the purpose of obtaining materials and assigning tasks to ensure job completion and compliance with local, state, and federal codes.
  • Interprets drawings, sketches, schematics, and specifications for the purpose of understanding system design.
  • Maintains assigned tools, and equipment for the purpose of ensuring availability in safe operating condition and compliance with applicable local, state, and federal codes.
  • Participates in meetings, workshops, trainings, and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions and maintaining skills relevant to changing standards.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective operation of systems and components.
  • Prepares written materials (e.g. repair status, activity logs, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities and/or conveying information.
  • Requests equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of items required to complete the necessary installation and/or repair.
  • Responds to emergency situations during and after scheduled hours for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
  • Supports in the analysis of preventive maintenance inspection findings and causes of failure; offers suggestions for correction for the purpose of reporting deficiencies and corrective actions
  • Transports a variety of tools, equipment and supplies for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials required at job site.

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

SKILLS are required to perform single, technical tasks with a need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating equipment used in low voltage; planning and managing projects; preparing and maintaining accurate records; and adhering to safety practices. Successful completion of a trade school course. Two years of work experience will substitute for the trade school training. Four years of successful work experience in low voltage. Must be able to obtain WA State License within one (1) year of employment.

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percent, and/or ratios; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: methods, techniques, materials, tools used in low voltage installation, maintenance, and repair; and safety practices and procedures. Knowledge of diagnosis and repair of low voltage systems and components. Operating knowledge and experience with computers and peripherals. Knowledge of District policies and procedures, and departmental policies and safety practices.

ABILITY is required to schedule activities and/or meetings; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others; work with data utilizing defined and similar processes; and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with similar types of data; and utilize a wide variety of types of job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is moderate to significant. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing work priorities; communicating with diverse groups; and working with frequent interruptions. Ability to communicate professionally both orally and in writing with building staff, coworkers and contractors. Ability to lift 50 pounds to chest height and push/pull 60 pounds. Ability to work in a variety of building areas including roofs, crawl spaces, chases and interstitial spaces. Ability to work in a variety of weather (indoors and outdoors).

Responsibility

Responsibilities include: working under direct supervision using standardized routines; providing information and/or advising others; operating within a defined budget. Utilization of some resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions. There is a continual opportunity to have some impact on the organization's services.

Work Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some climbing and balancing, significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 34% sitting, 33% walking, and 033% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and in a generally hazard free environment.

Education: Community college and/or vocational school degree with study in job-related area.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Employment with Clover Park School District is conditional pending completion of a Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation fingerprint background check as required by RCW28A.400.303. (NOTE: All associated background check fees are the employee's responsibility.) The fingerprint scan must be completed prior to the first day of employment.
